HISTORY ::

Turkey Run 2003 was a year of transition for those who were familiar with the legend of TR. For the first time in Serb Fest history, there were no adults in attendance. For various reasons, it seemed as though the last of the original founding attendees had said their final goodbyes to their Turkey Run days. While 2003 marked a transition for Serb Fest, the younger generation led by Jovan Zelenkovich & Scott Berger vowed to carry the torch for the new generation and TR 03 managed to stay true to the spirit of Serb Fest.

As TR 03 came to an end, Nutz proclaimed Serb Fest as "A weekend of Fire & Ice" in reference to the fires burning in the grills of TR and the Ice that filled the collection of coolers. Following TR 03, Founding Members Scott & John decided that it would be appropriate to rename Memorial Day Weekend's events at Turkey Run as it would relate to the new generation. With this, "Fire & Ice Extravaganza" was born. The title now serves as a distinction between the group of Jovan & the non-Serbian males (and the future evolution of TR) and the older generation of Serbians who truly gave "Serb Fest" its meaning.

While the title was officially adopted in 2003, we will consider its beginning years to be 1996 as this was the year that Jovan made the decision to continue to invite a new contingent of attendees to TR each year. This is the year that truly marked the beginning of what most of us know Turkey Run to be today. In addition, Serb Fest may occur in any given year and would require the attendance of 2 or more older generation attendees.

This is they year we've established as the beginning of the tradition of the group of non-Serbian males joining Serb Fest at Turkey Run on Memorial Day weekend. We do recognize that Jeff Bott was in attendance in 1994 and possibly 1995, it was in 1996 that things Jovan decided that he would continue the tradition of visiting Turkey Run each Memorial Day weekend year after year.

1998 was a landmark year for Fire & Ice as Scott made his first trip to Turkey Run with Jovan. This would be Jeff Bott's final year... but this was truly the beginning of something very special.

"Are you guys in the army?" Nope, we're just initiating a tradition of wearing wife beaters to TR each year. After a long hike it was obvious that Scott had never enjoyed corn on the cob like this before.

Scott carried the torch in 2001 as the other TR regulars were over seas, he got a small group together to experience the magic of TR. We're proud to say they've each become fine additions to the group. :: 2 trips in one year! Well.. for a few of us... those who missed TR 01 got a chance in August to attend TR observed. A unique year indeed.

TR 2003
The first true Fire & Ice Extravaganza without Serb Fest. It was a challenge that the group as a whole pulled together and overcame. It solidified the committment of the new generation to continue the tradition of Turkey Run come the day that Serb Fest is truly only a thing of the past.

A nice group photo with most of the TR 04 attendees is a good excuse to rest during the hike. :: We know what's on Olaf's mind during the kayak trip. Olaf will prove you wrong if you don't think it's possible to "quadurple fist".
