3.21.21 // TR 2020 Recap is Live!

I know everyone, especially Dave has been on the edge of their seats awaiting last year's recap. I'm happy to note that the full recap is now live on TR Online! Photos are plentiful (check out the full collection of photos on the Serb Fest Facebook Group). We're light on quotes - I'm not sure if some were lost over the last year, but there are a couple good memorable quotes documented. Congratulations to 2020 Rookie of the Year, Griffin Leininger, a well deserving recipient, despite limited competition, but as we know, we rarely have more than a couple new attendees each year anyway. Griffin was at home with the Central Indiana folk and was a fine addition to the small group we had on hand. We look forward to 2021 when we expect to award the full suite of honors, including the biennial Golden Cevapcici Award!

3.17.21 // A Look Ahead to TR 2021!

Well, here we are in mid March… Those of us in the Chicago area have had a taste of Spring, only to get blasted by another blanket of snow. Instead of dwelling on the current state of the weather, I’d much rather turn our sights toward Memorial Day Weekend! What a year it’s been… A year ago, I was fully confident TR2020 would go on without any impact from Coronavirus. Clearly, it was a true roller coaster ride until the 11th hour when we ultimately postponed Serb Fest, delaying its start two days to align with the reopening of State Parks in Indiana. A skeleton crew kept our sacred traditions alive with caution, but while we knew the world was far from normal, I don’t think any of us really considered an entire year later, we’d still in this reality… While things did indeed have to get worse before they got better, at least we know we’re in a much better place today and can confidently say TR 2021 will go on with relative normalcy. The attendance list will start to materialize over the coming weeks and months, but I imagine with such a large portion of our group already vaccinated, we’ll see many families return after a 2020 hiatus. Perhaps this will be a case of “absence makes the heart grow fonder”…. This May, let’s come together and gather ‘round the grill and enjoy one another’s company like never before! TR 2021 is sure to be a year for the ages!

And YES, the TR2020 Recap is coming soon!

12.20.20 // DSD Delicatessen Reopens at a New Location after 10 years!

DSD Delicatessen (Closed 2011)
Lawrence Ave, Chicago

Thanks to Caroline Boskovic for the tip! Our beloved source for our amazing Serbian cuisine has reopened after their shocking closure in 2011! The store was reopened by a new generation of owners and certainly looks to have an elevated level of quality! While our friends at Lalich have been exceedingly wonderful over the past decade, Serb Fest, of course has strong ties to DSD. Those of you who are new to the group should know that the cevapcici recipe at DSD is from the grandfather of our old friend and Founding Member, Jovan Zelenkovich. The recipe is a cornerstone of DSD's heritage, as stated in a recent Facebook post,

"This delicacy is one of the main reasons we brought D.S.D. Deli back to the community. Our recipe is the best kept secret that dates back to 1967. Stop in & see why D.S.D. Cevapi are the most popular specialty."

I am beyond excited to have DSD be part of Serb Fest in 2021!

5.30.20 // We Survived! TR 2020 Different, But Awesome!

Thanks to everyone who came out for a truly unique Serb Fest this year. While we obviously missed so many of our regular crew, the 4 families who were able to attend made the most of it! We know the rest of you hoisted an honorary High Life or PBR and you all fired up your own grills this weekend. I'm sure it was nice to have a quiet holiday weekend at home for a change, but I'm certain that the entire Serb Fest family is excited to get back to normal in 2021! Be on the lookout for a full recap and photos of TR2020 in the coming months (or let's face it, probably next Spring!) Ziveli, friends!

5.23.20 // SERB FEST COLLECTION: Best of the Best 2010-2020!!

It's 2pm on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. By now, we would have all normally arrived and festivities would be in full swing. Instead, I sit at home in front of a computer, sipping a beer, writing you all. While a few of us plan to make an abbreviated appearance at TR starting tomorrow, those who are not able to join will be truly missed. It was nice catching up with a few of you yesterday in your driveways. To get us through the remainder of the weekend, I leave you with one final gift.

Its no secret that song is a big part of what makes up the Spirit and atmosphere of Serb Fest. It all started with the unique and eclectic soundtrack of 2003's Fire & Ice documentary. From there, we've seen a steady stream of new music added to the Serb Fest soundtrack. While MP3s continue to be available on TROnline, I thought this year would be a good opportunity to introduce a BEST OF collection to Spotify, hopefully making access to those of you staying home this Memorial Day weekend, that much easier. Hopefully this link puts the playlist at your fingertips and will enhance your weekend, just a little bit!

5.17.20 // SERB FEST COLLECTION: Volume VI RELEASED!!

Despite the blasted pandemic and it's impact on Serb Fest's 2020 attendance, keeping in tradition with our evergrowing soundtrack schedule, I'm happy to announce the sixth installment of the Serb Fest Collection Series, the 10th anniversary of Volume I's release! As expected, the collection once again speaks to the unique flavor of Central Indiana and the Spirit of Turkey Run.

I build these collections over the course of 2 years and work hard to be very deliberate with my selections. This year, I was a bit lean on playlist, but stumbled upon a couple of excellent last minute additions - in particular, the bonus last track of the collection, "Boter Vinny", a Serbian powerhouse tune that I have not taken the time to translate lyrics, but am convinced it's a suitable anthem to solute our old friend, Vince Kus, 2004's inaugural 'Intellectual of the Year' award winner. In addition to this gem, there are a number of great, soon-to-be classic TR tunes by familiar artists and a few new to the collection as well. ENJOY!

Download the tracks HERE, add them to your iTunes playlists for the drive to TR this year, or for your own quarantined backyard Serb Fest festivities!

5.16.20 // TR2020 Will Be Intimate, But Awesome!

Hi Friends - This is not your typical attendance update, but none the less, we will indeed have a skeleton crew on hand at Turkey Run this year, for an abbreviated celebration of 2020's edition of Serb Fest. Not to worry though, we absolutely plan to gather as a full group later this summer (or fall) to "observe" Serb Fest. For those able to brave the pandemic to gather at TR, the day it officially opens to the public, this will be a year unlike any other. We will do our best to uphold the great spirt of Serb Fest past, despite the diminished attendence. We will remember this challenging time... and look forward to TR 2021, when we're all able to once again gather together aroudn the hallowed grills of Turkey Run for what promises to be the most anitipcated Serb Fest of ALL-TIME!! Next weekend, regardless of where you are, or who you're with, let's make memories! Happy Serb Fest! Zeveli!!

5.01.20 // TR2020 Hanging on by a Thread.... POSTPONED to MAY 24-26, 2020

Amazing to look back on the optimism from just 6 short weeks ago. Coronavirus was impacting our lives pretty significantly at that point. Offices were closed... Bars and Restaurants may have JUST shut down... But at that time, the expectation was that by the middle of April, we'd all more or less be back to "normal". Well, there's no need to fully recap the insanity of the last 6 weeks, but the bottom line is that as of this moment, Indiana State Parks are closed until a reopening (tentatively) scheduled for May 24.

So TR2020 is officially POSTPONED just two short days and will still hopefully remain over Memorial Day, extending to Tuesday, May 26. Many of us have contacted TR Inn to reschedule our stay to reflect these dates. Clearly, there's no pressure to join us this year if you and your families aren't comfortable in that environment at that point in time. The good news is that we would be the first occupants of the hotel and cabins after reopening, so the spaces should be clean and safely virus-free.

More to come on a contingency plan to include those who do in fact choose not to attend in person this year.

Stay safe, friends!

3.15.20 // COVID-19 Not Expected to Impact TR2020!

Well, Spring is nearly upon us… And as we all fend off the evil Coronavirus, rest assured, there are no plans to postpone or cancel our beloved weekend at Turkey Run! Let’s face it, with the amount of time we’ve all spent playing in the dirt at TR over the years, we’re all probably immune to much worse! We are a mere 10 weeks out and I do believe it’s time to let the anticipation begin!

This year, Serb Fest enters its 6th decade! For our generation’s Founding Members, it’s our 4th decade of attendance... Pretty astounding! What makes me most proud as I look forward to the next decade of Serb Fest, is the prospect of our children, the 3rd generation of attendees, by the close of the decade, will be young adults, many, of drinking age…. They will be primed to carry the torch and usher in the future of Serb Fest! So, until then, we, the second generation, have a responsibility to ourselves, our children, the future of Serb Fest… and most importantly, the legacy of our forefathers, to celebrate the next 10 years of Serb Fest…. To keep our Spirit and the Legend of Serb Fest-past, strong… to instill the same passion in our young ones that we all have for TR. This is our duty as today’s elder statesmen of Serb Fest!

First order of business, please reach out if you’re in need of a room for TR 2020. I’d like to inventory how many rooms we have amongst us so we don’t overextend our recruitment efforts! I hear OLAF and crew have a new family looking to join us! As always, I’ll post attendee news as it becomes available.

5.28.19 // Another Decade of Serb Fest Comes to a Close!

Another sensational Serb Fest is behind us. Another decade has become part of the Legend. Our generation has truly found its stride – after 20 years… or, perhaps after 10 years of navigating Serb Fest with the 3rd generation in tote… Serb Fest is like a well-oiled machine, prepared to endure anything the weekend might throw at us. We were excited to not only have the Boskovic's back after their infamous 1 year "hiatus"...the unexpected return of BS was amazing as well! Attendance was once again strong at 46! MORE >>

5.22.19 // ‘Cooler Sessions’ - Crazy Dan Premiers!

I’m thrilled to finally share the highly anticipated next chapter of Cooler Sessions, featuring none other than Crazy Dan! Appropriate timing as he prepares to make his return to Serb Fest after his one-year hiatus! The chat takes us back to the sweltering 100 degree heat of TR2012. Learn some important Serbian techniques for staying cool in extreme heat and MUCH more! Language is technically not safe for kids, but I used to share with a 3-4 year old Grant and he thought it was hilarious. He seems to have turned out fine!

5.21.19 // Turn Back The Clock: A Look Back at TR 99 - TWENTY Years Later

As you know, TR Online periodically brings you an in depth look back at notable years past, 10 years later in our “Turn Back The Clock” Series. The very first in our series debuted 10 years ago, looking back on 1999. A true turning point in Serb Fest History. A year in which Serb Feet’s second generation took hold and set forth down the path of a lifelong tradition. Now, in 2019, we have an opportunity to get again reflect on this pivotal year, 20 years later! Have a read and appreciate just how much has changed (and how much hasn’t) in 20 years of Serb Fest!

TR 1999 - TWENTY Years Later

5.19.19 // "One Trip Wonders" of Serb Fest Past

Let’s take a few moments to remember some of our most memorable “One Trip Wonders”! Most of us regular attendees have long committed to TR for life... A tradition of making memories with friends and family year after year... And while we always encourage regular attendance from the moment new invitees are introduced to Serb Fest, repeat attendance simply doesn’t materialize for some. For OLAF recruit, Sean Sullivan, an incredible 12 years separated his only two trips to TR. His surprise return in 2012 has certainly been the exception. Most are instantly hooked or fall immediately into TR lore. Impressively though, many who only briefly cross paths with our great tradition have managed to make lasting impressions. READ MORE>

5.15.19 // TR Shopping List Available

The TR2019 Shopping List is now available HERE! As expected, there’s not much change from recent years, but please review your individual (limited) responsibilities to prevent unnecessary redundancy of food, drink and supplies.

Also, be sure to have cash on hand for your park entrance fee ($7) canoe/kayak rental ($15/kayak, $20/canoe) and hay ride ($10/person)

For those bringing young children on the float and will have them in kayaks, I recommend picking up a few bungee cords from your local hardware store to allow you to tether kayaks together and ensure we all continue to float slowly and blissfully down Sugar Creek!

3.16.19 // Full TR 2018 RECAP w Photos Is Finally Up!

As promised, the TR 2018 Recap is finally up at TR Online! Check it out and relive the countless ridiculous moments! I mean, the quotes alone... absolutely priceless! Some dandy photos too... ENJOY!

3.11.19 // Let the Countdown Begin!! TR 2019 - 74 Days To Go!

Friends.... As most of us continue to endure a winter that just won't seem to quit, I can't believe we're less than 11 weeks out from yet another epic weekend at Turkey Run State Park. Like the promise of another Spring, TR2019 holds tremendous promise. I'm hopeful that we'll see the return of several dearly missed attendees and those who've recently returned to Serb Fest will continue the momentum forward and join us again this year!

In what seems to be the new normal here at TR Online and our Serb Fest FB Group, I've been slow to post content from the previous year.... Rest assured, this is in the works! Soon you'll be inundated with photos, ridiculous quotes and hilarious memories to get your appetite in order for this year's festivities. Stay tuned for much, much more!

5.29.18 // TR 2018 Awards Announcement!

Congratulations to our 2018 Award Winners! Feces Mike took home the prestigious Vince Kus Intellectual of the Year award and his boy Callen Z showed his strong, spirited personality... locking down 2018 Rookie of the Year honors. Look out for this kid in the future... He may be the next dude asking his buddies if they want to take a ride into town for some ice cream... if you know what I mean! And as for FM, let me point out that 5 of the last 6 recipients of the Intellectual of the Year award have been FM and Crazy Dan, however they've not attended TR together since 2011! Could 2019 be the year they're united and duke it out for next year's title? Or will the battle end in a stalemate, with each earning co-honors, as they did in 2011? Anticipation is high!! Finally, on a less-exciting note, Scott Berger earned this year's Cevapcici Consumption Award, after diligently pounding Serbian sausage all weekend with the sole goal of earning the award!

Check out the AWARDS ARCHIVE for a look back on past recipients!

5.29.18 // TR 2018 - Done and Done

The 41st+ edition of Serb Fest, while short a few key attendees, was none the less, not at all short of good times! The weather was outstanding and the group was energized by the return of Mike and Amy Z! The group rallied to compensate for the Boskovic’s absence for the first time since the early 2000’s. It certainly proved that they bring a heck of a lot more than crazy antics to the table each year. We’re now less than a year out from their sure-to-be triumphant return!

This year’s hike was a welcomed success after several years of poor navigation resulting in extra long hikes, we finally took the right turns that kept us to a reasonable distance and duration! The beer float was a near disaster and nearly resulted in the issuance of TR’s second official demerit (a second was threatened once before due to a stolen chair w/ footrest in the pre-children era of Serb Fest). Scott was over-confident in the group not needing a reservation for the kayak trip, but after a slightly later departure and above average nice weather, Sugar Valley Canoe Trips was at near capacity…. Running out of kayaks for all morning and early afternoon departures. That forced the majority of the group into tubes. At first this appeared to be a significant downgrade in comfort and experience, but as the trip unfolded, most agreed the tubes were fun. On another note, the group also failed to pack a secondary cooler of beer into the cars and Berger, once again could have been more diligent after Dave R asked if we had everything packed up. This certainly would have contributed to said issuance of a demerit, but miraculously, the group managed to reasonably ration the beverage supply, so all in all, the float was a success. That said, it was a big lesson learned and next year will be much better orchestrated! Perhaps this will parlay into a “most improved” award for Berger next year!

5.24.16 // ‘Cooler Sessions’ Series Debuts TODAY!

The time has come... For your viewing pleasure, the next installment of our "Fireside Chat" series, featuring Brian Crissie! Take a few minutes and give it a watch with the family!

FIRESIDE CHAT: BRIAN CRISSIE

5.07.18 // SERB FEST COLLECTION: Volume V RELEASED!!

The time has come! The fifth installment of the Serb Fest Collection Series is available for download! The collection once again speaks to the unique flavor of Central Indiana and the Spirit of Turkey Run.

As mentioned in recent weeks, I'm particularly excited about the two tracks that open and close Volume 5. 'P.B.R.' kicks off the collection and is sure to become a fast favorite! Clearly, the title speaks for itself... and while hilarious, this song is no joke! The tune slides into the mix as well as any other classic Serb Fest tune! And at the back end of the collection, a tune simply titled 'Cevapcici' brings a traditional Serbian Flavor to the collection. You can't help but to smile and laugh out loud as this song unfolds. And if your kids are anything like mine, they'll love it too! LOL

Between these gems are several strong tunes, representing our standby bands, The Why Store, Gov't Mule, The Flecktones, John Butler Trio, and more!

Download the tracks HERE, add them to your iTunes playlists and gear up for another high energy drive to TR!

5.04.18 // TR Shopping List Available // Attendence Updates

The TR 2018 Shopping List is now available HERE !! As always, let me know if there are any questions on your responsibilities!

I have confirmation that Amy Lund will be joining us once again. We know she's an enthusiast of Sugar Creek. Let's see how many trips she can muster up after the restrictions on canoeing last year! A few other notes - 2-time attendee, Frank "Meat" Malawski will not be returning this year, though we hope to see him back in the future! Brian O'Kelly and Stacey will also forgo attendence this year. Despite some absences, it's still expected to be quite the healthy turn-out! We're under three weeks to go!

4.16.18 // Rejoice! TR 2017 Recap and Photos Finally Available on TR Online!

Yes, this is admittedly 10 months late! Updating the beloved TR Online continues to be very painful this year as I continue to have file uploading issues! Never the less, our Serb Fest 40 memories are not officially archived and preserved for future generations! Take a moment to relive 2017 as we prepare for another great weekend next month!!

TR 2017 RECAP

On a similar note, the Annual Pre-Hike 'A-Shirt
' Photo page has received a bit of an overhaul. We can all agree this photo can be a bit of a pain in the ass each year, but I have to admit, the collection of photos are one of my favorite pieces of TR Online. Nearly 20 years behind us. You really see the youth come through on the early photos! WOW!

3.18.18 // TR 2018 Kick-Off // Exciting Attendance News!!

Greetings my fellow Turkey Run enthusiasts!! After a near 10 month hiatus, TR Online is back in business! My deepest apologies for the delayed posts of last years recap and the usual late Winter TR hype. Computer software issues and time restraints are to blame, but for now, things seem to be working, so away we post!

Special thanks to Bry and Dave R for the gentle nudge to get my @ss in gear. You guys get all the credit this year in lighting the TR fire!
With that said, we are just over 2 months out from the Most Anticipated Weekend of the Year! I may reach out to some of you individually, but let's be sure we have lodging squared away for everyone. If you're without a room right now, keep a close eye on the TR Inn website for last minute availability!

Without further ado, I have some exciting news to share!! I received confirmation last week that Amy & Mike Z will in fact be making their long anticipated return to TR this year! Now with 3 kids (newcomers Kate & Callen join their older sister and past attendee, Anna), this will be Mike & Amy's first trip since 2011! Mike captured Rookie of the Year honors 10 years ago in 2008 with quick witted humor and a newfound nickname, "Feces Mike". He was also a back-to-back recipient of the Honorary Vince Kus Intellectual of the Year Award in 2010-2011 and is credited with introducing Stroh's to Serb Fest. Amy, of course, is nothing but good times and folds perfectly into the fabric of TR. This is truly great news for 2018 and I hope we all continue to be spoiled by their presence into the future!

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks!

1.04.18 // Passing of a Serb Fest Legend

  On January 1, the TR family lost Hall of Famer, Miomir Stevanovic. Known to most current attendees as 'Monica's Dad', he was among several Serbian men in the 1980's who along with their families solidified the trek to Turkey Run State Park as an annual tradition, which we know has now grown to a multi-generational decades long tradition. Miomir and his wife Zofia instilled their passion for TR in their daughter Monica at a young age... and again, as we know, Monica has been instrumental in preserving the Serb Fest tradition for generations to come. While Miomir made his last visit to TR in the early 2000's, his memory lives on - most notably in the groups affinity for his incredible marinated chicken legs, a highly anticipated menu item that Monica has been gracious enough to provide in his memory. I know I speak for everyone who knew him and was able to share early Serb Fest memories with him, that he will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

5.31.17 // TR 2017 Awards Announcement!

Congratulations are in order for our 2017 Award Winners! By unanimous decision, newcomer, Joe E took home 2017 Rookie of the Year honors. It's no surprise that Joe weaved his way into the fabric and spirit of Serb Fest with ease. And pounding 60+ beers is a sure-fire way to make a solid impression on the TR High Council! Congratulatorials, Joe!

It probably goes without saying, that this, of all years, Crazy Dan is more than deserving of the Vince Kus Intellectual of the Year award, recapturing these honors for the first time since 2012 and becoming an unprecedented 3rd time honoree.

Carter Berger earned the Cevapcici Consumption Award for the second straight year, having proclaimed early in the weekend that he was ONLY interested in eating Cevap this weekend! His family continues to be proud and overjoyed. Who will step up and challenge him in 2018??

And finally, the 7th recipient of the Jovan Zelenkovich Memorial Golden Cevapcici Award is a very deserving, OLAF. Now, 17 trips to Serb Fest under his belt… One of three invitees of Jovan back in 1998 - leading to Founding Member status in 2013 - clearly, he's been a cornerstone of this, the second generation of Serb Fest. He also is responsible for the first male attendee of the 3rd generation, as his son John was introduced to TR in 2008 just a couple months into his young life. He's responsible for the 'symbol' of TR - we all know it! A moment captured on camera back in 2003. "Nobody pounds beers like OLAF, NOBODY… But we plan for that, and it's okay…" That's one of my favorite historical quotes from Jovan way back when… He may not be QUITE the same beer pounder as he was in his younger days, but I wouldn't bet against him… He's been an active recruiter of new attendees for well over a decade…. And last but not least, he cooks some mean potatoes! Next time you see OLAF, be sure to congratulate him again and praise him for his Serb Fest related achievements!

Check out the AWARDS ARCHIVE for a look back on past recipients!

5.30.17 // Serb Fest 40: An Instant Classic!

Serb Fest 40 is in the books and as expected, it did NOT disappoint! I can already anticipate putting together one of those "Turn Back The Clock" pieces on TR 2017, 10 years from now as we prepare for Serb Fest 50! A series of events starting late Friday evening running through check-out Monday morning became instant legend… Folklore that will be shared for generations to come. Those of us in attendance will never forget it - especially those who were witness to said events. I'll choose to refrain from recounting these events on TROnline in the interest of those involved. But it's no secret, just ask… and we'll share the story - perhaps with only mild embellishment. The only downside to the weekend was the cancelation of the Beer Float due to excessively high water levels on the creek. It was disappointing, but few let it stand in their way of a good time. The weekend introduced many of us to the glory of Hamms Light - deemed the "perfect breakfast beer". Hamms, like Ham… get it? No seriously, Hamms Light paired with Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage and potatoes --- MAGIC! We had a surprise appearance from Aleks after she led us to believe she had an unavoidable conflict Memorial Day weekend. The group enjoyed movie night in the shelter thanks to a new projector, as we relived the old TR classic, Fire & Ice Extravaganza and shared some of our latest video projects of Crazy Dan. Check out the full reel of quotes from the weekend and you'll understand just how ridiculous the TR 2017 was!

5.26.17 // Weather Update // Sugar Creek Conditions // Last Minute Reminders

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It’s finally here!
THE MOST ANTICIPATED WEEKEND OF THE YEAR!

Weather has improved a bit from earlier in the week. Temperatures remain in the upper 70's to upwards up 80 degrees and chances of rain on Sunday has subsided a bit, but timing of the rain may impact the Sunday Beer Float. Otherwise, Sugar Creek levels are only slightly above normal and is expected to be open to all ages, weather permitting...

Some last minute reminders before you hit the road: Be sure to have cash for your entrance fee to TR State Park – Typically $7 for out-of-state unless rates have gone up. Also, have cash on hand for the hay ride, if interested (between $10-20 for a family – OLAF may remember the exact rate). And of course, if your shopping list includes a Serbian Food cash donation, please get your money to me as soon as you can. I’ll make sure we’re covered before reimbursing Crazy Dan (Thanks again, Dan for handling the critical task of supplying the Serbian cuisine!) AND FINALLY – Please note that we’re going to do our best to stick to a “schedule” for a few key events this weekend. I know it’s tough to always be around when parenting duties call – but please make an effort to be at the grill site for the following events:

Saturday, 4:00pm – Annual Beater Photo
Sunday, 5:30pm – Awards Ceremony
Sunday, 5:45pm – Full Group Photo

A full schedule of events can be found HERE

5.24.17 // ‘Cooler Sessions’ Series Debuts TODAY!

As if the Fireside Chat series wasn’t enough… TR Online introduces yet another video series that we’ll build upon in the future! Welcome to ‘Cooler Sessions’! The first chapter features 3-time attendee, Brian O’Kelly. The interview was filmed during TR2012 in the midst of Brian’s second trip to TR. In contrast to Crazy Dan’s ‘Fireside Chat’ which, among much of his antics, speaks eloquently about the history of Serb Fest from the perspective of our longest-tenured attendee… Brian brings a youthful perspective of Serb Fest – relevant to many of our newer invitees, even those experiencing Serb Fest for the very first time this year! ENJOY!

COOLER SESSIONS: BRIAN O'KELLY

5.24.17 // Reserve Your Rooms NOW for TR 2019!

It’s time to reserve your room for TR 2019!! Follow the Online Reservation Wizard. TR 2019 is scheduled for Friday, May 24 – Monday, May 27, 2019. Remember, rooms book quickly and waiting until this weekend to reserve in person at TR Inn may be too late! You are only paying for one night’s stay up front as a deposit, which of course is fully refundable in the sad event that you need to cancel (up to 4 days prior to check-in) due to some unfortunate event keeping you from attending. Also, pay consideration to the possibility of reserving an extra room for potential guests of yours at TR 2019. It’s certainly encouraged to extend invitations to friends and family of yours outside of our immediate group! Remember, it is the responsibility of all of us to continually spread the Legend of Turkey Run to ensure the future livelihood and success of Serb Fest!

5.21.17 // ‘Fireside Chat’ Series Debuts featuring Crazy Dan!

FIRESIDE CHAT: CRAZY DAN [Right click, save as] or tap to stream to your mobile devices

As advertised, the first Chapter of the new ‘Fireside Chat’ series is NOW AVAILABLE for your viewing pleasure! Filmed nearly 5 years ago, late night during TR2012, the release of this priceless footage in some form has been highly anticipated from the moment it was captured! Originally part of a flurry of filming done at TR2012 intended to contribute to the production of our next full-length documentary – a look at the rich history of Serb Fest. Time has proven that production of such a documentary is no small task, but one that certainly remains an aspiration for us all. And so, Krangis and Scott agreed that we simply couldn’t hold back on the release of this legendary interview session any longer. It stands tremendously well on its own and will leaving you crying from laughter. Throughout the interview, you hear the small group that had gathered behind the camera fight to hold back the uncontrollable laughter. The good news is that today, you can laugh to your heart’s content! ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??!

5.14.17 // ‘Fireside Chat’ Series Set to Debut on May 21st!

Announced today on the Serb Fest Facebook Group was the upcoming release of a new video series entitled ‘Fireside Chat’ – set to debut next Sunday, May 21st at 8:00pm CST!  While the video will be available On Demand at TROnline, you’ll surely want to mark your calendars to set aside some time Sunday evening after the kids retire to bed – This highly anticipated first chapter in the series features none other than Crazy Dan, filmed in the Lodge, late night during TR2012.  It can be described as nothing short of an utterly hilarious stream of consciousness from a truly one of a kind Legend of Serb Fest!  As such, this production will not exactly be appropriate for children… But let’s face it, I’ll probably let my kids watch.  It’s no different than what they hear at TR!!

5.12.17 // 'CAN'T STOP THE FEELING' Video Released!

Well who can’t get excited after watching this?!  Krangis once again comes through in a big way with an uplifting video set to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” – a song most cool kids can appreciate!  Share this one with your kids!

A BIG thanks to Krangis for taking the time to capture these moments and share them in a way that will preserve these memories for a lifetime!

5.06.17 // NOW AVAILABLE!!  ‘The ABCs of TR’ eBook Will Bring A New Level Of Fun To Bedtime!

Introducing what will hopefully be a series of Serb Fest inspired books in the coming years!  I couldn’t think of a better way to start this series than with a book geared toward our youngest TR attendees!  With Serb Fest’s third generation growing stronger each year, this will be a great way to keep the Serb Fest spirit strong in our little ones all year long!

From “I is for Indian Head Dress” to “O is for OLAF”, "The ABCs of TR" is arguably the most entertaining alphabet book ever written!  It’s perfect for kids learning their ABCs and for kids gaining a deeper insight of Serb Fest, from a kid’s perspective, of course!  But make no mistake, this can be fun for Serb Fest attendees of all ages!  Special shout out to Nutz for introducing me to a fantastic app, Prisma, nearly a year ago – making these wonderful illustrations possible!

My hope is to find a company to print hard copies - or make hard copies available for purchase online. Until then, enjoy the book on your computer, tablet or mobile devices!

Check out the eBook HERE and share it with your kids!!

5.05.17 // TR 2017 Shopping List Now Available

The shopping list is now available!  Hopefully this is in advance enough of the trip to give everyone a couple of weekends to plan their shopping.  Thanks to Julie for pushing me to get this out now and not 3 days before TR!  Much of the same from previous years.  OLAF – as noted on the list, we should talk about strategy for Jimmy Dean potatoes.  We need to perfect this meal – it’s been clumsy in recent years!

As for everyone else – Let me know if you have any questions.  If you’re contributing to the Serbian food order, please bring cash to me at TR.  The sooner you can get it to me, the better!

5.02.17 // TR 2017 Attendance Update

We are looking great on attendance, as expected! In fact, we're potentally going to set a modern-day Serb Fest attendance record this year - as we're approaching 50 confirmed attendees! I received word tonight from camp OLAF that Amy Lund will be returning to TR this year! Two-time past attendees, Dan and Rachel W will be returning for their third Serb Fest! Word has it that they'll be staying at Turkey Run Campground. Let's hope the rain stays away for their sake...

I also got encouraging news from Monica, saying that she is indeed planning to return to Turkey Run this year! I know I speak for everyone in that we're extradorinarily excited at this prospect! Monica - You've been missed in recent years! Serb Fest isn't the same without you! I remain hopeful that Aleks will return and I have Crazy Dan working on Teta Lela, Cika Daca and Teta Lela (Aleks, we need your support on this as well!) The new attendees and most of all, the young kids, need to experience the joy and privelage of sharing Serb Fest with some of our esteemed Hall of Famers and living legends!

To other past attendees who may have fallen out of the swing of Serb Fest - it's not too late to get in on Serb Fest 40! Let me know if you're interested as we'll need to take a final inventory soon of available rooms. I expect that we'll not be releasing any rooms back to the general public this year! DON'T MISS OUT!!

5.01.17 // Turn Back The Clock: A Look Back at TR 07 - Ten Years Later

Another chapter of 'Turn Back The Clock'.... As I thought back, considering whether or not this would be a year to add to our TBTC series, I initially though... "Eh... 1997 - Not very relaVant to this group - But next year, we can definitely look back on 1998, certainly a red-letter date in the history of Serb Fest!" But then it hit me... '97?! That's TWENTY years back!! We're talking about 2007!! Are you kidding me??! It feels like only yesterday, but yes, '07 was a full decade back! And oh my.... it is definitely a year worthy of exploring here today!

TR 07- Ten Years Later

4.03.17 // TR 2017 Attendance Update // MEAT // 2010 Rookie of the Year // Newcomers

I have exciting attendance news to share for TR 2017! I have confirmation that 2016 Rookie, Frank Malawski, affectionately known as "Meat", will be returning in 2017! We expect great things! I've also received word that 2010 Rookie of the Year, Brian O'Kelly expects to make a welcomed return to TR this year! Brian has been on-again-off-again since storming onto the Serb Fest scene as a young man. This will be his 4th appearance at TR. This is convenient timing as his part-Korean/part-Irish namesake counterpart, Brian Kelley will unfortunately be on extended hiatus from Serb Fest for the forseeable future due to committments to his alter-ego, Dr. Shit.

We will also welcome Ich's sister Vikki and family (husband, Joe, children Maddie and JJ) to Turkey Run. They've been very familiar with the Legend of TR for the better part of 20 years as it often comes up in conversation around the dinner table at family gatherings between the Berger's and Mann's. We expect they'll fit right in very comfortably. Joe has strong Rookie of the Year potential!

4.01.17 // Welcome to TR 2017 // Serb Fest 40

Friends and fellow TR attendees, past and present…. We are 2 months out from an historic weekend.  This year, we’ll celebrate an incredible 40th anniversary of our beloved Serb Fest!  As generations have come and gone, perhaps some of our newer attendees may find it hard to even fathom this tradition dating back 4 decades – further back than most of us have been alive! The tradition continues to thrive, touching new people each year.  Amazingly, this Memorial Day weekend, we not only celebrate 40 years of Serb Fest, but 20 years since the inaugural attendance of today’s ‘Founding Members’ of as named by the TR High Council.  TR 1998 was a pivotal year in which our old friend, Jovan Zelenkovich first invited the likes of myself, Scott Berger and OLAF – a move that quickly spawned a feverish growth of a new generation, not seen since the formative days of Serb Fest in the mid-70’s.

I urge everyone to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion – Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-29, 2017.  We’ll find room for everyone!  Can’t wait to see you gathered ‘round the grills of Turkey Run!

Ziveli!

3.18.17 // New Life in the TR Family!

Congratulations are in order for the latest off-season additions to the TR Family! This year Nutz and Amy Heitzman will welcome baby Riley and Erich and Lauren Mann will welcome baby Vivian to the tradition of TR. Hard to believe, but we may well be at a point where the 3rd generation will outnumber us "old people"! Let's see this a a good thing - and good for the future of Serb Fest! You know what they say, "Gotta Start 'Em Young!"

5.31.16 // TR 2016 Awards Announcement

The TR High Council has spoken! In a very close vote, the 2016 Rookie of the Year Award goes to Mark Decker! His domination of the "pump" and in consideration of the increased degree of difficulty in managing 2 very active sons, makes him a very deserving recipient! "Meat" (Frank Malawski), of course had a very strong showing coming away with both a killer nickname and likely a killer hangover after polishing off his bottle of MD20/20. Thanks to both men for their superb spirit in their inaugural trip to TR! We look forward to having you both back next year! Special mention also goes to Amy Lund for initiating an unprecedented 2nd kayak trip on Monday morning!

The 2016 Most Improved Award goes to Rishi Loona - which sounds illogical considering he reached the pinnacle of TR recognition last year taking home the Golden Cevapcici Award, but in sharp contrast to his usual intelligent being, he foolishly returned his rental car Monday morning with Scott's cooler and beer float in the trunk! He made good this April with a new cooler, float and grill tool set with integrated flash lights. AMAZING!

The Cevapcici Consumption Award goes to Carter Berger, not only for his enthusiasm for cevapcici, but for his enthusiasm for all meats. His family is very proud!

Check out the AWARDS ARCHIVE for a look back on past recipients!

5.30.16 // TR 2016 - Just About Perfect!!

Well, few could argue that this wasn’t another outstanding year for Serb Fest! While we missed several regulars and a last minute cancelation of Amy Heitzman due to illness, we welcomed several new comers. A new attendee is like having kids – It gives you an opportunity to see life (or in this case, TR) through the eyes of someone new – it just makes everything that much more exciting! Not to mention, it led to a new nickname (“meat”) and a new initiation beverage. The weather was glorious, the kids had a blast, the food and drink was plentiful and as usual, plenty of hilarious quotes were born. After a strong very late Friday night, anchored by Scott, Rishi, Crazy Dan, Olaf and new comer, “Meat” – Saturday was met with at least a couple mild (and rare) hangovers. As the remaining families arrived, many embarked on the annual hike – though the group was split. Following the hike, the annual wife beater photo was expanded to include not only a shot of the men, but a shot of the men and kids (as we’ve done the past few years) and a shot of only the kids. It was truly a sight to see so many boys under the age of 8 proudly bearing their A shirts, just as their fathers do. A true memorable moment for Serb Fest as the 3rd generation continues to grow! We saw the introduction of a new game – bottle something-or-another – where the object is to knock a bottle off of a pole with a Frisbee – all while holding a cold beverage…. A fantastic game that I expect to be a mainstay in the future! Another game involving a hammer and nails failed to debut this year, though we’ll work hard to bring that game to life in 2017! Sunday morning the group split for the annual beer float and Sangria Sunday traditions. But for the first time, 3 of the men embarked on the trip with children. A risky move, but one that turned out to be phenomenal! Grant, Jack, Cameron and Sarah joined us and couldn’t have enjoyed the trip more! And special recognition to Sarah for fetching Stroh’s for the group on a couple of occasions! The rest of the weekend was business as usual. Another notable addition – the introduction of new grill tools with integrated flash lights (thanks Rishi)! So now we turn our sights to TR 2017 – Serb Fest’s 40th Anniversary! We have A LOT in store for you all in the upcoming year. So many ideas and so little time! Can’t wait to share them with you all! Zeveli, friends!

5.27.16 // Greatest Quote in Serb Fest History is Crowned!

After a very difficult series of polls where the group pined over selecting favorite quotes from each year dating back to 2003, as the final poll was revealed to the group, Scott was hit with the revelation that perhaps one of the greatest and most influential quotes of all time had been inadvertently left out of previous voting rounds! Given this quote's place in the TR Code of Ethics, it felt appropriate to give the quote late entry in the final round, suggesting it could be the 'dark horse' quote. And against very stiff competion from legendary quotes from 2005, '06, '07 and '10, the Hall of Famer's quote won in a landslide - not only solidifying it's rightful place as the 10th Commandment of Serb Fest, but now rightfully as the greatest quote in Serb Fest History.

5.25.16 // DON'T MISS SERB FEST'S 40th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT TR 2017!!

It’s not too early to start talking about TR2017 given the circumstance that we’ll be celebrating Serb Fest’s 40th ANNIVERSARY! The attendance list has evolved over the years. We’ve been without our forefathers for a few years now as they slowly retired from Serb Fest as the 2nd generation has taken over. We’ve had a number of one or two-time attendees in the last 20 years and we’ve had a number of one-time regulars on an extended hiatus in the last couple years. 2017 – We welcome encourage everyone to come back to join together and celebrate this great tradition and pay tribute to the incredible 40 year history touching 5 decades!

With that said, amazingly, there appears to be a handful of rooms currently available through the Turkey Run Inn’s Online Reservation Wizard! If you did not reserve your room for 2017 last year, now may be your last chance! If Serb Fest holds a special place in your heart, BOOK NOW! Remember, you can cancel up to 4 days prior to check-in (though you’d be crazy to do so!). And if you can’t make it, I expect that room to be in high demand as both past attendees and new attendees look to get in on a Serb Fest for the ages!

5.25.16 // Reserve Your Rooms NOW for TR 2018!

It’s time to reserve your room for TR 2018!! Follow the Online Reservation Wizard. TR 2018 is scheduled for Friday, May 25 – Monday, May 28, 2018. Also, pay consideration to the possibility of reserving an extra room for potential guests of yours at TR 2018. It’s certainly encouraged to extend invitations to friends and family of yours outside of our immediate group! Remember, it is the responsibility of all of us to continually spread the Legend of Turkey Run to ensure the future livelihood and success of Serb Fest!

5.21.16 // Fire & Ice Extravaganza :: Special Edition 2004 Recap NOW AVAILABLE for Streaming!

That's right! What seems like a hidden treasure, even for me, is rereleased digitally available for download or to stream directly to your mobile devices! Relive TR2004 in our second documentary installment!

2004 saw a true cast of characters, several of whom only attended this one year, leave a lasting impression on Serb Fest. Among them, Vince Kus – the inaugural recipient and inspiration behind the annual award that bears his name: The Honorary Vince Kus Intellectual of the Year. He’s called upon by the TR High Council each year to return to Serb Fest, but to no avail. We will not quit until we triumph! But in the meantime, his legend lives on.

View the video HERE or visit the documentary page for links to other great Serb Fest video!

5.20.16 // TR Attendance Update

TR Attendance Update! I got confirmation today that Frank Malawski will be joining Serb Fest Friday evening through Sunday morning. I realized how overwhelming it can be for new attendees with so much information and such a rich history portrayed in TROnline and on Social Media. But I think you're better off with the information overload than the "don't worry about it, just show up" treatment Chuckles got years ago (well documented in his TAO OF TURKEY RUN piece from 2009. With at least a couple new guys joining us, let's see how the Rookie of the Year voting goes down! Crazy Dan, break out the Wild Irish Rose and Mad Dog 20 20!

5.19.16 // Serb Fest Collection - Volume IV Released!

I’m excited to present the latest installment in the Serb Fest Collection Series! This is the first new Volume in the series since 2012 after having released ‘Serb Fest Collection Live’ and ‘Council Picks’ in 2014. I’m particularly pleased with the lineup this year… As always, we have a solid blend of Southern Rock and Country tunes – appropriate for the Central Indiana flavor of TR! While there are hidden references to TR-related themes and anecdotes in many of the selections, I’m particularly fond of Jason Aldean’s ‘1994’, seemingly an ANTHEM for all things TR. In fact, the song’s chorus is a tribute to Country legend, Joe Diffie and specifically references his gem of a song, ‘Pickup Man’ – a favorite of Jovan’s and a featured tune on Serb Fest Collection – Volume 2. Coincidentally, ‘1994’ also happens to be a key year in Serb Fest history – The year Jovan first brought a friend to TR (Jeff Bott), setting an important precedent leading to present day Serb Fest.

Download the tracks HERE, add them to your iTunes playlists and gear up for another high energy drive (or flight) to TR!

5.09.16 // TR Attendance Update

As the weather in the Midwest slowly turns and warm sunny days become more and more common, I can't help but to close my eyes and imagine the euphoria of pulling into Turkey Run State Park Friday evening and racing to the grill site in anticipation of cracking open that first cold beer and dumping a pile of meat on the grill! We're now well inside of 3 weeks to go! I can hardly contain myself!

I'm excited to share another attendance update! I got word this past weekend that the OLAF and family have recruited Amy Lund to finally experience the magic of Serb Fest! For those of you who don't know Amy, she has long-time ties to many people in the group. She remains closest with OLAF and Julie, but was also close friends with Jovan Zelenkovich in High School and later introduced to many of the guys you see at TR in the following years in college. It's also worth mentioning that she has ties to the infamous Jeff Bott, whom we're still hoping will make a return to TR - possibly in 2017, almost twenty years after his last trip in 1998. [Serb Fest fun-fact.... Jeff Bott was the first friend that Jovan brought to TR back in 1994, setting an important precedent for was eventually became modern-day Serb Fest!] I digress...... Amy has undoubtedly heard many tales of Serb Fest over the past decade or two! It's time she check it out for herself!

5.02.16 // 2016 Shopping List Available Now!

This year's shopping list is now available! There aren't many changes from previous years, but there are definitely a few differences - Please review carefully to ensure we have all bases covered! For those of you contributing monetarily to the Serbian Food order, please bring cash for Crazy Dan.

2016 Shopping List

4.24.16 // TR Attendance Update

We're excited to welcome Mark & Katie Decker along with their two boys, Cameron & Aaron to Serb Fest in 2016! While this will be there first Serb Fest, they are no strangers to Turkey Run. Mark has 3 prior visits and Katie, 1. They are avid hikers, so expect to see them enjoying Trail 9! On a sad note, I confirmed this week that Monica will be unable to join us this year for the second straight year. However, rest assured, she guaranteed a return in 2017! Also, as most of you know, BS will once again be absent from TR. Let's all show mercy one more year as there are mighty big plans ahead for him as he travels to Europe. He, also is very much expected to return to TR in 2017!

4.23.16 // Rishi Follows Through on 2015 Promise

  After foolishly cutting out of TR2015 heading to the Indianapolis Airport his rental car, including Scott's cooler and cooler floating device, Rishi came through this week with replacements! And to sweeten the make-good, he through in a new set of BBQ tools, complete with built in flash-lights. I expect he'll thoroughly enjoy using these while late-night grilling! After hitting a high, capturing the 2015 Golden Cevapcici Award and then hitting the low of driving off with a trunk full of supplies, I'd say Rishi is poised to capture 2016's 'Most Improved' Award!

2.20.16 // A New Look for TROnline!

It's hard to believe it's been nearly 13 years since TROnline made its debut! The site has grown considerably since it's humble beginnings as an archive for past attendees and a few ridiculous quotes. Now its finally time to give her a new look! It'll take some time, so bear with me - but I hope y'all enjoy TROnline 2.0!

5.30.15 // TR 2015 Comes to a Close After Another Memorable Weekend!

A beautiful weekend and more outstanding memories! Thanks to everyone who spend the weekend with us. It was a weekend of Kirkland Light and the return of the Beer Float that made TR 2015 somewhat of a throwback to TRs past! The food was amazing and it's been a pleasure watching the 3rd generation kids grow and appreciate TR for all that it is! Ziveli and bring on 2016! Take a look at the 2015 recap HERE.

5.19.15 // More Attendance Confirmations!

  Shout out to Erik and Julie for their solid recruiting efforts this year! Just got word of additional attendees! OLAF's nanny, Sam Chandler and boyfriend Joey Maddox are set to return! Clearly a failed attempt from Crazy Dan last year to scare off Sam! Joey, was a contender for last year's Rookie of the Year. They're also bringing the backup nanny, Maggie Gray & her boyfriend Eric Schiller. It sounds like they're ready to compete for 2015's award class! And watch out Rishi, I hear they're into Fireball! They'll be at TR Friday through late Sunday.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, Maggie and Eric are unable to attend. Sam & Joey have also chosen no longer make the trip as a result.

5.17.15 // Attendence Update!

  Great news! I just received word last night from OLAF's camp that we have late unexpected confirmation that 2011 Rookie of the Year, Dan W and his wife Rachel and daughter Chloe will be joining us at TR! This marks the first time a Rookie of the Year who had initially attended only that one year will make his return trip after an extended absence. The only others to hold the ROY honor who have been absent since are 2004 ROY Arpan Desai (we're working on an eventual return) and 2006 ROY Joe Taylor. (It will be interesting to see if he crosses paths with Serb Fest someday in the future as he gets older). In any event, we're excited to have Dan and family return in 2015!

5.13.15 // Message From "Abe Lincoln"

Nikola Sorak - "Abe Lincoln"
Founder of Serb Fest

  In a message this morning on a recent Facebook Serb Fest post, the Grandfather of Serb Fest, Nikola Sorak (Abe Lincoln) posted words of encouragement to the group:

"Maybe one day I will show up in TR to meet all of you at the BBQ! Keep on going and don't give up!"

Sounds like the door is open for an epic Serb Fest Reunion - perhaps in 2017 for the 40th Anniversary of Serb Fest! Let's start working on the rest of the elders now!

Ziveli!

5.12.15 // TR Shopping List Now Available!

The annual shopping list is now available! As usual, we've tried to keep this as simple as possible with a goal of providing a baseline supply of communal food, alcohol and supplies - responsibilities being divided amongst the group. We’re hoping Crazy Dan can once again secure cevapcici for the group, so those who have been selected to donate cash to reimburse Dan, please have cash available at TR! We have figured 1 case of beer per man/family (8 total) as the baseline. I certainly encourage you to bring more alcohol (beer/liquor/wine, etc). Remember, the spirit of Turkey Run is somewhat trashy, so sticking with lower end beers (Old Style, High Life, Stroh's, PBR) is encouraged, but not required!

5.12.15 // Attendence Update and Inspiring Words

I’d be remiss if I didn’t share some thoughts on the heels of learning of several TR regulars announcing that they would not be attending TR2015. In the last week, I’ve learned we’ll be without Monica, Emma, Aleks and BS. I think I can speak for everyone in that it’s always disappointing to learn of one, let alone several people whose presence at TR is truly impactful, is unable to attend. Most everyone at one time or another has missed a year or two in the 17+ years our generation has been attending. As our good friend Jovan said in 2003, (paraphrased) “We understand that everyone has to take a sabbatical for one reason or another, but no matter where life takes us or how busy we get, this is the one weekend a year that we can all come together to catch up, relive the countless memories and make new ones.” Perhaps it is a coincidence that so many more than normal are unable to join us this year. But for those breaking away this year, remember what has drawn us to Serb Fest for so many years. Know that you will be missed and we expect to see everyone return in 2016! We’ve been a resilient group in the past, as we’ve endured the passing of the torch to our generation in 2003 when it was believed that the elders would retire from TR, to the transition of welcoming significant others to TR as some misread TR to be a “guys only” weekend, to our generation introducing our own children, yet another generation to the folklore and legend of Turkey Run, and perhaps the most difficult of challenges, the loss of our good friend, Jovan – the reason why SO many of us were introduced to TR. Today, we find ourselves at another crossroads. As life continues to get more hectic and our time is in more demand than ever, you can lose sight of opportunities to make amazing memories. I’m not suggesting that the absences we’ll see in 2015 are a result of anyone losing sight of the importance of TR, but this great tradition needs you – everyone reading this – to survive. This year, we’ll book rooms for TR 2017. That will be the observance of the 40th Anniversary of Serb Fest. Can you believe that?! We’re all a part of something special. We have a healthy group attending in 2015 and I have no doubt that we’ll continue to make great memories! To the rest of you, again, we’ll miss you and will look forward to your return in 2016!

2.15.15 :: A Look Ahead to TR2015

Greetings, Turkey Run enthusiasts!! Mid February means one thing..... its time to start the look ahead to the warm air of May and the sizzle of the grills at Turkey Run! While once, the time between February and May felt like somewhat of an eternity, as I grow older with more and more responsibility, these months tend to slip away faster and faster. While I hate for time to pass that quickly sometimes, the bright side is that it does get us to the most anticipated weekend of the year that much faster! Stay tuned here at TR Online, as always, for news, updates and hype as TR 2015 approaches!

12.14.14 :: The TR Family Says Goodbye to a Legend

This December, the TR family lost Hall of Famer, Mila Zelenkovic. Known to most current attendees as 'Mrs. Z', Jovan's mother shared many same qualities and an appreciation for life as our friend Jovan did. Mrs. Z first attended Turkey Run in 1985 with Mr. Z before bringing Jovan the following year in 1986. This was the start of an annual tradition for the Zelenkovich family that of course led to the growth of 'Serb Fest' through a new generation of attendees. She was elected to the TR Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 2003 and last attended Serb Fest in 2009. As seen in this photo from 2009, TR clearly held a special place in her heart. I know I speak for everyone who knew her and was able to share TR memories with her, that she will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

6.02.14 :: TR 2014 Another Great Success!

Another classic Serb Fest is behind us. An amazing group of people. New faces, young faces and faces from Serb Fests past.... Would could have asked for more out of the weekend? A sincere THANK YOU to all who attended for continuing the Legend that is Turkey Run! Relive the memories HERE.

Congratulations to 2014 Rookie of the Year, Dave Abel! This year, for the first time, the ROY was awarded through a vote amongst the TR High Council. Dave's attitude and energy among other unmentionables locked it up. Congrats are also due to young Ethan Heitzman for securing the 2014 Cevapcici Consuption Award! Your enthusiasm in consuming your very first cevap was unmatched by anyone else all weekend! See past award winners HERE.

5.17.14 :: A Second Audio Release in 2014! TR High Council PICKS + BONUS!

Just can't contain ourselves here at TR Online! So we have yet another Audio release for your listening pleasure! This time we've enlisted the input of the esteemed TR High Council for their top picks - one song each that to them, undeniably represented the Spirit of Turkey Run!

This idea was built off a suggestion from Jovan in 2012 when he recommended a song to be included on a future release. As 2014 came around, I figured, why not have each councilman follow Jovan's lead and select a tune?! It turns out some councilmen really couldn't pick just one... so out of that came the BONUS disc of additional tunes!

Download the tracks HERE, add them to your iTunes playlists and gear up for another high energy drive (or flight) to TR!

5.09.14 :: TR Shopping List Now Available!

The annual shopping list is now available. As usual, we've tried to keep this as simple as possible with a goal of providing a baseline supply of communal food, alcohol and supplies - responsibilities being divided amongst the group. Also, as usual, we're asking new attendees to contribute to the "Serbian Cuisine" fund - a donation of $30 to Nutz. PLEASE HAVE CASH AVAILABLE at TR! Along with the donation, 1 case of beer is requested. Remember, the spirit of Turkey Run is somewhat trashy, so sticking with lower end beers (Old Style, High Life, Stroh's, PBR) is encouraged!

If there are any questions or concerns with fulfilling your assignments, please reach out ASAP so we can reassign items if need be!

5.06.14 :: 2014 Awards - Will You Compete??
Such a special part of Serb Fest each year, is the presentation of our annual awards at the end of the weekend. I look forward to recognizing the Spirit of each of the award winner and adding these individuals to the long list of award winners from years past. Having been formally presenting awards since 2003, we've seeing an impressive group of winners that continues to grow each year! As we know, the covetted Jovan Zelenkovich Memorial Golden Cevapcici Award is the highest honor one can receive - but it is only awarded every other year. All other awards, including Rookie of the Year, Cevapcici Consumption Award, Honorary Vince Kus Intellectual of the Year and Most Improved are all annual awards, but are only awarded if there is deemed a worthy recipient.

With that said, I encourage each and every one of you to consider stacking your "TR Resumes". Seek to win an award you've never won. Or seek to recapture a title you've held in the past. Stacking the deck will only help you when it comes time to determine the next Golden Cevapcici Award Winner!

Browse the AWARDS ARCHIVE and appreciate the many award winners who've made the TR history books. I look forward to seeing who takes home the "hardware" in 2014! Ladies, this includes you all! It's time we open up the field and bring even greater competitive spirit to Serb Fest! Good Luck!

5.02.14 :: Serb Fest Collection - LIVE Released!

The newest audio release from TR Online is now available! Serb Fest Collection- LIVE contains 12 incredible live performances of classic Serb Fest songs sampled from each of the previous 6 audio releases! The idea came to me last year when stumbling across a performance of Gov't Mule's "Tear Me Down", a song featured during the credits of 2003's Fire & Ice Extravaganza documentary. I was inspired by the energy of the live performance and the presence of the crowd and thought how fantastic it would be to assemble live performances of some of the best TR-related tures we've grown to love over the last decade-plus!

Download the tracks HERE, add them to your iTunes playlists and gear up for another high energy drive (or flight) to TR!

MORE on this release.

4.26.14 :: Documentary Update

As we all know, the next documentary has been slated for release on-again-off-again for several years. Knowing realistically this will be the last full-scale video release at least until the 3rd generation is poised to carry the Serb Fest torch, the intent is to truly make this next release as strong as possible; one that captures the essence and spirit of Turkey Run past, present and future. We have phenomenal footage and interviews in our vault and while we initially targeted this May as a release date, Krangis has made the executive decision to postpone release one more year in an effort to capture additional supporting footage at TR 2014 to fulfill his vision! While the wait is a bit painful, the wait will be worth it! Give Krangis, the reigning Golden Cevapcici Award receipient, a vote of encouragement when you see him this year!

In the meantime, we're working on getting the original Fire & Ice documentary online including bonus footage for your viewing pleasure! Stay tuned to TR Online for more information in the coming weeks!

4.26.14 :: TR Online Updates

Enhancements are being made annually to TR Online, typically from February to June. While I got a late start this year, several enhancements and updateds have been made recently with more to come! Check out the new look TR High Council page, Code of Ethics page and FAQ page. Content is also being made to Profile pages regularly. As always, if you have any photos or care to contribute any written content to yours or someone else's profile, please contact me!

4.25.14 :: More Attendence News - O'Kelly to Return to Serb Fest

It's been confirmed that Brian O'Kelly will indeed be making his return to Turkey Run this year after a one year hiatus. This will be his 3rd trip to Serb Fest. He made his TR debut in 2010, taking home Rookie of the Year honors with his energy and youthful spirit. We're glad to see him return! I'm also happy to report that we'll be joined by a friend of Brian's, Dave Abel. I've yet to have the pleasure of meeting Dave, but I'm confident that we'll (and by we, I mean Crazy Dan) break him in in short order! Rookie of the Year honors looks to be quite the competitive landscape this year with several first time attendees among us!

4.25.14 :: Attendance List Taking Shape for TR 2014

With under 1 month to go, I've received confirmations I'm happy to report and as always, a few that come with some sadness. I'm happy to introduce a new family joining us this year, courtesy of the Heitzman's. Welcome to their friends, Joe, Shawna and their 1 yr old son Brody! I've also received confirmation of the return of 2013 rookies, Erich and Lauren Mann, who this year will be joined by their son Henry! I've received unconfirmed word that we may be joined again by Mr. Brian O'Kelly after a one year hiatus! This is good news, especially considering it appears that Serb Fest, for the first time in 14 years, will be without the presence of Brian Kelley. We will surely miss his antics, but will eagerly await his return in 2015! Sadly, it appears that Chuckles will be unable to make his highly anticpated return to TR this year. The door is not completely closed at this point, but we're at the mercy of the ridiculously high airefare coming to a reasonable point. More to come! As always, please relay any attendence confirmations to me!

4.24.14 :: Competition Heats up for 2014 Cevapcici Consumption Award!

Things are getting intense on the Serb Fest Facebook page, as several Moms are volunteering and insisting their young will be in strong competition for this year's Cevapcici Consumption Award. Reigning award winner, Scott Berger had a thing or two to say about it though, being clearly interesting in defending his title! This will surely be settled 'round the blazing grills of TR. Keep in mind if you're thinking about this logically - a grown man with a solid appetite vs young toddlers - surely this can't be a fair matchup! The award is not solely given on quantity of sausages, but more-so on the spirit with which they're consumed! This throws an element of subjectivity into the competition, but certainly makes it much more interesting! I encourage all attendees to compete!

3.22.14 :: TR 2014 - Right Around The Corner!

So, admittedly, a late start this year on TR Online, but alas, the season of TR hype is upon us! While most of us have endured perhaps the worst winter of our lives, going strong into March, the good news is that April is a week away and we're less than 9 short weeks until TR 2014! The warm sun and sizzle of the grill never sounded so good! As usual, I have big plans for TR Online in the coming months and hope that it fuels your excitement for Memorial Day weekend as much as it does mine! Stay tuned!

6.20.13 :: Happy 10th Birthday, TR Online!

It seems like just yesterday that this great idea of a website to honor TR was born, but believe it or not, its been 10 YEARS! TR Online has come a long way from its inception following TR 2003. It was initially put together to simply help a few of us help remember who attended the prior few years. This information was previously tracked on a spreadsheet (along with the still-used TR shopping list). This spreadsheet is mentioned by John in the Fire & Ice Documentary when he has trouble remembering some of the attendees from years past and "wishes he had that spreadsheet!". Today, TR Online serves as hub for perspective attendees, but most importantly, as a look back to the memories that are made year after year at TR! Its an almanac of Serb Fest history and I simply can't wait to see how the site and its content evolves over the next 10 years! Thank you all for visiting!

6.02.13 :: TR 2013 - A Success, Once Again!

TR 2013 may always be most remembered for being our first TR without our old friend Jovan, but we’ll also remember it as a celebration of his memory and affirmation that this great tradition that he was so passionate about will continue to live on in his honor. Thanks to all who attended in 2013 and for living in the great spirit of Serb Fest amongst family and great friends! There’s so much to recognize coming out of the weekend – particularly with regards to a number of Awards handed out this year! Congratulations are in order for Krangis, who took home the honor of being the 5th recipient of the (newly renamed) Jovan Zelenkovich Memorial Golden Cevapcici Award. Congratulations are also in order for the 2013 Rookie of the Year, Ethan Heitzman, the Vince Kus Honorary Intellectual of the Year, Max Russo, and Cevapcici Consumption Award winner, Scott Berger. Each recipient demonstrated exceptional displays of the Tenets of Turkey Run. I invite you to relive the great memories of TR 2013 HERE.

5.17.13 :: TR Multimedia On-the-Go! Fire & Ice Special Edition Now Available through Digital Download!

5.12.13 :: Video Trailer for TR2013 is Released!

As we're now officially inside of two weeks to arguably one of the most pivotal years in Serb Fest history, I want to thank each and everyone of you for your continued enthusiasm and loyalty to this amazing tradition we're all so fortunate to be a part of. As you all know, we have captured a lot of video footage over the past decade including some very touching interviews with Jovan last year. While none of us knew what would be in store the following year, it makes his words that much more inspiring. Without further adieu, on behalf of Krangis, I present the following trailer for TR 2013.

.

5.01.13 :: Turn Back The Clock: A Look Back at TR 03- Ten Years Later

TR 2003 - Perhaps the most memorable year in recent history, largely due to its being captured on film and the focus of our beloved "Fire & Ice Extravaganza" documentary. But aside from so many quotes, songs, images and video clips being etched in our memories from the documentary, TR 03 was truly unique and important in a number of ways. The Serb Fest torch was officially passed to the second generation as no "adults" were in attendance for the first time. While the second generation had been gaining steam since Monica and Jovan first had the notion of bringing their own friends to TR a decade earlier, 2003 finally represented the year that this generation's commitment to upholding the tradition of Serb Fest was put to the test. Clearly, we succeeded!

Another 10 years later, in 2013, our commitment will once again be tested - and I have no doubt that our commitment is stronger than ever. Serb Fest's longevity will endure for decades more to come!
Take a look back and appreciate one of the more pivotal and unique years in Serb Fest history!

TR 03- Ten Years Later

4.21.13 :: BS Confirms Attendance for TR 2013!

I received unexpected confirmation moments ago from Rishi that two-time Cevapcici Consumption Award winner, Brian Kelley has in fact altered his international travel plans for the summer and will be able to attend after all! I know I'm excited for this news and I know I'm not alone! I'm already hearing that some are releived to hear that BS's very popular Korean Shortribs will once again be on the menu!

As always, keep me posted on any attendance news or new attendees that may be joining us!

4.21.13 :: Long-time Invitee Confirms Attendance for TR 2013!

I received confirmation yesterday afternoon that long-time invitee, Erich Mann along with his wife Lauren are in fact looking to make their Serb Fest debuts this May! Erich, known to many simply as, "Ich", has had somewhat of a standing invitation to attend for over a decade. He had confirmed attendance in 2009 but had to cancel the week of TR. All good things are worth the wait, so regardless of how many years its been, we're excited at the prospect of having Ich & Lauren join us this year!

4.19.13 :: Highly Anticipated Follow up to 2004's "Fire & Ice" Documentary Gains Traction

After years of anticipation, Krangis has finally begun the arduous task of compiling the incredible footage taken by a number of attendees since 2005. As many of you know, the project has been gaining steam over the last 2 years, culminating with last year's efforts to capture a number of phenomenal interviews with key Serb Fest attendees. While details of the upcoming release are not ready to be released, the goal of this follow-up documentary has always been to capture the rich history of Serb Fest and examining its influence on today's Serb Fest - and most importantly, to remind us all why we continue to come back to Turkey Run each year! All great things take an enormous amount of time and effort - so we're still anticipating a Spring 2014 release date. TR Online will keep you abreast of any developments, so stay tuned!

4.09.13 :: TR 2013 Schedule Announced

The full 2013 schedule has been posted to the 2013 preview page. While we've tried to not be overly structured with the schedule for the weekend in years past, I thought it might be appropriate to outline just a few key events and have everyone be aware of them upfront in hopes of not having to do too much wrangling or cause any undue stress for anyone leading up to these events. This year we will plan on the annual beater photo at 4:00 on Saturday. This will hopefully give the Saturday arrivals plenty of time to get settled in and give plenty of nap time through the mid afternoon. The photo will happen with or without you, so consider this your warning. People have been upset for missing it in the past, so if you'd like to be part of the traditional photo, please be around! Sunday at 6:30, we will attempt our large group photo. This has been very challenging to pull off in the past, but when we've been able to, the photos have been amazing! Again, we will have had a long day, but my hope is to catch most, if not all of the group during dinner. Following this photo, with what is expected to be the largest gathering of attendees at any point of the weekend, I will have some important announcements regarding the TR High Council as well as the presentation of the 2013 Golden Cevapcici Award!

Again to recap:

Saturday, May 25 - 4:00pm - Annual Beater Photo (at Grill Site)
Sunday, May 26 - 6:30pm - Serb Fest Group Photo (at Grill Site)
Sunday, May 26 - 7:00pm - TR High Council Announcement and Golden Cevapcici Award Ceremony

3.10.13 :: New Additions to the Serb Fest Family!

Congratulations are in order for Nutz and Amy, who welcomed their son, Ethan Douglas Heitzman to the world on March 9! We're also thrilled to announce that on March 1, Dave and Bry also welcomed a son, Louis John David. We're all excited for the little ones to make their TR debut this year as the 3rd generation continues to grow at an incredible rate!

2.16.13 :: TR2013 to be a Pivotal and Exciting Year!

Happy February everyone! It's that time of year again, as we all start looking forward to the warmth of Spring and the sizzle of cevapcici on the grill! I have to admit, that while February traditionally kicks off the TR season, I've been thinking long and hard about TR 2013 since October. The thought of TR this year brings such a range of emotions, but knowing that so many people are going out of their way to attend in such an important and pivotal year brings me great pride. I'm proud of what our generation has built and what we're contributing each year to the legend of Serb Fest. 2013 will mark the year that we will be without the true founding father of our generation at Turkey Run. Despite this, our group and this great tradition has never been stronger. I look forward, as have for the past 12 years as co-founding member for our generation, to continuing the hype for Serb Fest each year! We have a number of great things in store for everyone at TR this year, not only to honor John, but to honor each and every attendee! As always, please keep me abreast of your travel plans and any additional guests that may be joining us this year! Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas for how to make TR 2013 the best Serb Fest yet!

10.02.12 :: TR Online Celebrates the Life and Spirit of John Zelenkovich: A Message From Scott Berger

John Zelenkovich
1979-2012

PHOTO SLIDESHOW

I struggle to find the right words to pay tribute to such an incredible friend. The truth is, anyone reading this already knows in their hearts what it is I'm so desperately trying to say. John inspired me in so many ways... and while our friendship was so much more than TR, it seemed to weave its way into the majority of our conversations. I fed off of his passion for our annual Memorial Day gathering and in turn, he fed off of mine. It was an endless cycle of hype and excitement that may have come across as slightly insane and ridiculous to outsiders, but was a source of so much genuine happiness for him and I.

"I'm not gonna lie, I check the TR website several times a day in hopes that it gets updated. I think that's just as much a part of the TR tradition as anything else for me!" - John Zelenkovich via text message to Scott Berger on 5/31/2012

This is why I'm compelled to cope with this loss by updating our beloved TR website... For nearly 10 years, I've spent time documenting the countless memories we create each year at TR and have peiced together decades of rich history that came before us. In return, we have something tangible here that we'll all have for the rest of our lives. Still, such a motivating factor in my spending so much time maintaining this website, was the joy and laughter John and I shared after each update. I am lucky to be a part of the Serb Fest family. Even as all of our friendships were young, some 15 years ago, we all knew almost immediately, that this tradition was something special. While I always envisioned growing old along side John at Turkey Run, I now know that instead, we will all be celebrating his memory and unparalleled spirit for Turkey Run and all that Serb Fest stands for.

I'm thankful for this gift that John has given so many of us - We are all part of an amazing family and we will always have TR as an "excuse" to know that at least once a year, we'll all come together, no matter where life takes us. This is the vision that John had for TR nearly 10 years ago - that TR would continue to be "a constant in all our lives". He knew that "each year, all of his best friends would be at Turkey Run".

I could go on forever... but let me close with this..... Jovy, we'll miss you, but your spirit will live with each of us forever. It will transcend generations and continue to inspire us and future generations to keep this beloved tradition alive. Until we meet again, enjoy a drink and a sizzling cevap off the big grill in the sky... and send our best to Cika Bora... Ziveli!

5.30.12 :: TR2012 Attendees Battle Heat and Keep Spirits High

TR 2012 will be remembered for several reasons, but arguably, the most memorable aspect of the weekend was the record temperatures as the mercury climbed to the mid to upper 90's each day. The group however was resilient and with several relocations throughout the weekend, managed to stay in shade and stay relatively comfortable - especially impressive given the number of young children in attendance this year! Of course, good times were once again had by all! Check out the TR 2012 Overview page to relive the memories!

5.24.12 :: A Message From "Abe Lincoln"

Nikola Sorak - "Abe Lincoln"
Founder of Serb Fest

In a message this morning on Jovan's Facebook wall, the Grandfather of Serb Fest, Nikola Sorak (Abe Lincoln) posted:

"Happy Memorial Day canoeing to you all, be careful and have fun, greetings to y'all, Nick Sorak"

While he hasn't been able to attend TR since 1998, its clear that TR still holds a very special place in his heart. We should all take a moment appreciate his place in Serb Fest history as it has given us all this great "excuse" to gather each year at Turkey Run!

Ziveli!

5.19.12 :: Serb Fest Collection - Volume III Released!

The newest audio release from TR Online is now available! Serb Fest Collection- Volume III contains 10 MORE Song Selections Inspired By The Spirit Of Turkey Run! The Collection is once again heavily influenced by Southern Rock & Bluegrass favorites that we've come to associate so closely with TR.

You'll find new tunes by Classic TR Artists, new artust introductions to the Collection, as well as a gem that was imortalized in 2004's "Fire & Ice Extravaganza" DVD release - "*Official* Turkey Run Cooler" segment, Download the tracks, add them to your iTunes playlists and gear up for another high energy drive (or flight) to TR!

Track Listing & Download Info HERE.

5.17.12 :: TR 2012 Attendance List Appears to be Set!
Check out the "TR 2012 is Right Around the Corner" webpage to view the current (and likely final) attendance list for TR 2012. The most notable change is the unfortunate news that Chuckles has had to decline attendance after having confirmed last November. We all remain hopefull that the 2009 Golden Cevapcici Award winner will return in 2013. We've also learned that Teta Lela will not be joining us this year, however, rest assured that Cika Daca WILL be in attendance with Aleks. As always, please let me know if you have any addtions to the attendance list!

4.09.12 :: TR 2000 Attendee, Sean Sullivan Confirmed for TR 2012!
OLAF confirmed late Monday night that one time Serb Fest attendee, Sean Sullivan and his wife Melissa have confirmed their plans to attend TR this year! Exciting news, as this will mark the longest period of time before a past participant has returned to TR. A return was rumored in early 2004, but never materialized. We're thrilled to have Sean back and welcome his wife Melissa. We hope that his return will exceed what surely are fond memories of his first trip over a decade ago!

4.08.12 :: TR 2004 Attendee and Inspiration Behind the "Intellectual of the Year" Award, Vince Kus, Chats with TR Online!

Vince Kus
2004 Intellectual of the Year

While it’s been nearly 8 years since his one and only trip to Serb Fest, his attendance is still one of the most talked about in Serb Fest History. TR Online has been in pursuit of Vince for 2 years with the hopes of catching up and getting his take on his place in Serb Fest history! Vince was the final addition to the TR 2004 line-up and it proved to be a great one. He no doubt was able to provide an unusual brand of entertainment to the group - always a welcomed trait.

In 2008, the Intellectual of the Year award was officially renamed in his honor, as its first ever recipient; a fitting way to pay respect to the intellectual of all intellectual TR attendees, past, present and future.

His eventual return is among the highest anticipated of past Serb Fest attendees. For those of you never having had the pleasure of experiencing the “Intellectual’s” company, this summary of our exchange gives a glimpse into his unique and eloquent “intellectual stylings”

3.17.12 :: TR 2010 Rookie of the Year, Brian O'Kelly to Return in 2012
Word was received that TR 2010 Rookie of the Year, Brian O'Kelly, will be returning to TR this year after a one year hiatus due to the birth of his niece, Eloise Berger just prior to TR 2011. We're excited to have his energy return to TR this year!

3.12.12 :: Gotta Start 'em Young!
Congratulations are in order for 3 families welcoming new life to the Serb Fest family this year! Carter Marshall Jude, born on March 7 to Scott & Julie Berger (yes folks, 'Marshall" is indeed a nod to 'Marshall, IN') and James Patrick born to OLAF & Julie on March 12 will be making their TR debuts after less than 3 months of life. This is reminiscent of Danica Boskovic's first trip in 2004 at a comparable age at which time Crazy Dan exclaimed "Gotta start 'em young!". Feces Mike and family are also expecting a new child at the beginning of April and are also expected to attend this year! We will update you with more info after their baby is born!

UPDATE: Congratulations to Feces Mike and family on their daughter, Kate Lorraine, born on April 1. Sadly however, they are unable to attend this year. We look forward to their return in 2013!

2.18.12 :: I Know Its Only February, But......
Dear Turkey Run, I know its only February, but I yearn for the warm Spring air filled with the scent of charcoal, lighter fluid and meat. I know its only February, but as life becomes more hectic with each passing year, the days, weeks and months tick by just a little bit faster. And so, I know that while on paper, it may seem that Memorial Day weekend is beyond my reach, it will ultimately be here before I know it. So Turkey Run, I know its only February, but as you emerge from Winter, I respectfully ask that you to be prepared for the legend to continue! Ziveli! - The Men, Women & Children of Serb Fest

5.31.11 :: TR 2011, While Unconventional, Still a Success!
TR 2011 may have inadvertently been without a few key traditions, but there was no shortage of good times! Great people, great food, and plenty of classic moments anchored yet another phenomenal Serb Fest! Let me take another opportunity to congratulate Nutz the much deserved 2011 Golden Cevapcici Award! This only adds to his legacy at Serb Fest! Check out the TR 2011 Overview page to relive the memories and for the recipients of other TR 2011 Awards.

5.24.11 :: The Beloved DSD Delicatessen - Closed for Business!

DSD Delicatessen
Lawrence Ave, Chicago
  Saturday afternoon, 1:45pm: the red flag was raised. Aleks, while driving down Lawrence Ave in Chicago, noticed that DSD Delicatessen appeared to be closed. This immediately sent some of us into a frenzy to uncover the story behind this unforeseen turn of events. Aleks was able to soon learn that the owner of DSD had passed away 6 months ago but the store had been open for some period of time since his passing. Then this evening, a shocking development.... Jovan learns from Mr. Z that DSD has been closed due to some sort of "inspection violation". It is unclear as to whether or not it is health department related, but one can only assume... It is unknown at this time whether or not DSD will reopen in the future.

Mr. Z immediately followed with a backup recommendation - Lalich Delicatessen, a mere two blocks from DSD on Lawrence Ave will apparently have intense expectations to live up to, but given the circumstances, I'm sure the group will give it a fair shake.

5.21.11 :: Tripp & Becky Pull Out of TR 2011
Jovan confirmed today that Tripp & Becky, first time attendees in 2010 were unable to find reasonable airfare from California for Memorial Day Weekend this year. While we are saddened by this news, we surely appreciate their consideration and effort to return to TR in 2011. Perhaps 2012 will work out differently!

5.19.11 :: "Abe Lincoln" Considering a Return to TR in 2011!
In a Facebook message to Jovan last night, Cika Nik, known affectionately by today's attendees as "Abe Lincoln" for the resemblance of his facial hair to that of the Sixteenth President of the United States, inquired about the attendance of old friends, Cika Daca, Teta Lela and Teta Cica and that he would maybe “drive down and see what’s going on”.

"Abe Lincoln", a Hall of Famer and Serb Fest Legend is one of the original grandfathers of Serb Fest in the mid 1970's. While he last attended TR in 1998, his spirit has been carried on year after yeah by today's great attendees. Keep your fingers crossed that this historic event comes to fruition!

5.15.11 :: Welcome Eloise Clare Berger to the Serb Fest Family!
Congratulations to Jeff & Erin Berger with the birth of their daughter Eloise Clare, Sunday, May 15! While they understandably will not be in attendance next weekend at TR 2011, we look forward to sharing TR 2012 will all of them to formally welcome her to her first Serb Fest!

5.12.11 :: BREAKING NEWS- ALCOHOL NO LONGER ALLOWED on 3 ½ Mile Canoe/Kayak Trip through Sugar Valley Canoe Trips!
It was discovered this morning that a new regulation has been put into place by Sugar Valley Canoe Trips which seriously impacts one of our beloved traditions. No mention was made of the allowance of alcohol on the longer trips, but it is assumed that this new policy does not apply. For those who are new to Serb Fest in the last 5 or 6 years, in 2005, the group made an on-the-fly decision to abandon Sugar Valley’s competitor, “Turkey Run Canoe Trips” due to their policy on alcohol consumption which limited us to 2 beers/person. Sugar Valley, while having their own quirks, did not have an alcohol policy in place allowing us to essentially carry an unlimited amount of beer onto the creek.

Despite this shocking news, rest assured a contingency plan is being developed. Look for further communications from TR Online regarding the game plan.

5.11.11 :: Tenets of Turkey Run Featured Webpages & Annual TR Awards Archive Added to TR Online!
For your browsing pleasure, you can now view dedicated webpages with expanded content for the Tenets of Turkey Run. Also added is an archive of past award winners for our annual TR Awards. Enjoy!

5.11.11 :: Turn Back The Clock: A Look Back at TR 01 (and TR 01 Observed)- Ten Years Later

2001 was indeed a pivotal year in the growth and evolution of Serb Fest. With the men of the Second Generation core attendees having just graduated from college, a backpacking trip to Western Europe kept many of them from attending Serb Fest on Memorial Day weekend. However, it also marked the one and only year where an alternate date in August was chosen to “observe” Turkey Run.

Take a look back and appreciate one of the more pivotal and unique years in Serb Fest history!

TR 01- Ten Years Later

4.21.11 :: TR 2011 Attendance Notes & Schedule
The schedule for TR 2011 has been posted on the 2011 Preview Page. The information of particular interest should be in regards to booking your rooms for TR 2013 prior to Memorial Day Weekend. Reservations should be available beginning Wednesday, May 24th. Put a reminder on your calendars, phones, etc! There are also attendance projections highlighted by the return of Dave & Bry along with their daughter Adeline! I've also received word of the expected attendance of a new family, friends of OLAF & Julie! This year, we'll miss Krangis & Erin for the 2nd time in 3 years, but wish them great luck in the birth of their daughter within days of TR 2011. Finally, I've heard unconfirmed reports that despite his assurance of his attendance in 2011, Chuckles will be unable to attend for the second straight year. Rest assured, we will acquire the covetted Golden Cevapcici Award in advance of the highly anticipated presentation of the 2011 GCA Honors! What are YOU doing to stand out from the rest of the group?

2.17.11 :: Here We Go Again! TR 2011 is on the Horizon!
Coming on the heels of a near record-setting day of unseasonably mild temperatures in Chicago, it seems fitting that on this day, we begin to look ahead to the upcoming TR! TR regulars are certainly excited for the return of Dave & Bry R this year, joined by their daughter who will have recently turned 1 year old by the time Memorial Day rolls around. We're also expecting Chuckles to return to Marshall, IN after taking a one year hiatis while enjoying his '09 Golden Cevapcici Award. We are however expecting to be without Krangis & Company for the second time in three years - this time due to the expected birth of a baby girl within days of TR 2011! Surely a worthy excuse for absence - but also expected to be made up in the form of his support for sponsoring the attendence of large groups of his daughter's friends for co-Serb Fest/Birthday celebrations in the future! Stay tuned for the usual onslaught of updates to TR Online in the coming months!

11.10.10 :: TR Attendees Gather for Two Offseason Weddings!

Zelenkovich Wedding
Newport Beach, CA

Heitzman Wedding
Chicago, IL

CONGRATULATIONS are certainly in order for Jovan & Stephanie Zelenkovich who exchanged vows on Labor Day weekend in Newport Beach, CA. Jeff & Amy Heitzman followed suit in early November. Both affairs were witnessed by an impressive group of TR attendees as evidenced in the late-night group photos! Congrats again! We're lucky to have Steph and Amy as a part of the TR Family. Jovy & Nutz..... Nice work gentlemen.

6.05.10 :: Relive the Great Memories of TR 2010
The TR 2010 Overview webpage is available for your viewing pleasure! I expect to have more photos coming in, so keep checking back! You'll also notice some other site improvements and reorganization of content including a new general TR "OVERVIEW" page as well as a new "TRADITION" page and updated profile write-ups for many attendees. Expect a drastic make-over of attendee profiles and a new TR Kids page before 2011!

6.01.10 :: Highly Anticipated "Serb Fest" DVD Officially in Production - May 2012 Release!
You may have noticed the extra cameras filming this year! Originally slated for a May 2006 release, production of “Serb Fest”, the next full-length TR documentary, was first put on hold following TR 2005 due to the absence of some key Hall of Fame attendees. In the years following, the decision to keep the project shelved for an extended period of time was made in hopes of not only building anticipation, but also to capture footage from a greater span of time – therefore creating more distinction between it and 2004’s “Fire & Ice Extravaganza”.

With a May 2012 release on the horizon, Krangis did a great deal of shooting this year of and around our group as a whole. In 2011, he will be focusing on capturing footage of individuals including extensive interviewing of select attendees. We will contact you in the months leading up to TR 2011 to help prepare you for these interviews. They are meant to be FUN, so don’t worry!

“Serb Fest”, unlike “Fire & Ice” will not be focusing on the chronological events of any one particular TR Weekend, but will be an in-depth look at the past, present, and future of Serb Fest including its becoming a cross-generational event, its great Traditions and the great Spirit that surrounds us each year at TR! Brace yourselves for an incredible experience! While its production is still in its infancy, this will likely be the one and only substantial update you receive before the official trailer is released sometime before TR 2011, so stay tuned my friends!

UPDATE :: "Serb Fest" is now slated for a May 2013 release due to Krangis's absence from TR 2011. Patience my friends!

6.01.10 :: Gorgeous Weather Among the Many Highlights of TR 2010!
Aside from the obvious and expected success of TR each year, one can hardly expect to have the incredible summer-like weather that we saw throughout the entire weekend this year! Attendees hardly needed so much as a sweatshirt at night as late-night temperatures leveled out near 70 degrees. While it was admittedly hot in the afternoon hours, it was hard to complain as the sun reflected off our backs during the Sunday afternoon Kayak trip! Attendees are certainly returning to work this week a shade or two darker than they left last week! With another 40+ in attendance and the rapidly growing Third Generation of children attending, the great Spirit surrounding everyone was infectious! TR 2010 Overview Webpage Coming Soon!

6.01.10 :: Video Message From Chuckles!
Prior to TR 2010 Chuckles prepared this video message to the group. We were unfortunately unable to distribute the message prior to the weekend, but alas, better late than never!

5.25.10 :: Reserve Your Rooms for TR 2012 NOW!
It’s time to reserve your room for TR 2012! Head HERE and follow the Reservation Wizard. TR 2012 is scheduled for Friday, May 25 – Monday, May 28, 2012. Also, pay consideration to the possibility of reserving an extra room for potential guests of yours at TR 2012. It’s certainly encouraged to extend invitations to friends and family of yours outside of our immediate group! Remember, it is the responsibility of all of us to continually spread the Legend of Turkey Run to ensure the future livelihood and success of Serb Fest!

5.24.10 :: TR Online Connects with the One & Only, "Abe Lincoln" via Facebook!!

Nikola Sorak - "Abe Lincoln"
Founder of Serb Fest

Friends, it has been indeed a GROUND BREAKING day! Today, I was able to locate and connect with a Serb Fest Legend & Hall of Famer. The Grandfather and Original Founding Member of our beloved annual trip to Turkey Run State Park, Nikola Sorak!

Julie and I spoke with Mr. Z over the weekend and he was able to give us "Abe Lincoln's" real name - a mystery for the 12 years I've been attending TR. I searched his name this afternoon and low and behold, immediately found him on Facebook! At 77 years old, he looks to be doing well! I'm hoping to communicate to him just how much the tradition he started over 30 years ago means to all of us today! Hopefully he can share some stories from the early days and maybe even come up with some never-before-seen photos or video footage!

Stay tuned for more in the future! Ziveli!

5.23.10 :: Serb Fest Collection - Volume II Released!

The newest audio release from TR Online is now available! Serb Fest Collection- Volume II contains 14 MORE Song Selections Inspired By The Spirit Of Turkey Run! The Collection is once again heavily influenced by Southern Rock & Bluegrass favorites that we've come to associate so closely with TR.

You'll find new tunes by Classic TR Artists, Gov't Mule and The Why Store, both imortalized in 2004's "Fire & Ice Extravaganza" DVD release as well as several tunes by emerging TR favorite, Bo Bice, first featured on 2008's Serb Fest Collection Volume I. Download the tracks, add them to your iTunes playlists and gear up for another high energy drive (or flight) to TR!

Track Listing & Download Info HERE.

5.18.10 :: TR 2010 Shopping Assignments have been Distributed & More
An official Serb Fest Announcment went out today including this year's shopping assignment and delgations for transporting critical supplies to TR. Also included was information on this year's Kayak trip as well as helpful cooler packing tips for your pre-TR preparation! View the full announcement and shopping list HERE.

5.07.10 :: Guests of the Boskovic Family to Attend TR 2010
We've received word recently that the Boskovic's have invited the McCleod Family to join us at TR this year. We welcome Katherine & Hans along with their children Allison and Luke to the Serb Fest tradition! Let's show them why we all keep coming back year after year!

5.07.10 :: Serb Fest Hall of Fame Update

The Serb Fest Hall of Fame has received a well-deserved make-over including expanded profiles and additional photos of each inductee! Check it out and pay your respects to the founding fathers of our great annual weekend tradition! "To the generation that started it all... Ziveli!"

5.06.10 :: Hall of Famers & BS Confirm for TR 2010!
We've received confirmation that Cika Daca, Teta Lela, and Teta Cica will indeed be making the trip to TR this year! Its possible we may see Monica's parents return, but this is only speculation at this point. We are however pleased to report that BS has confirmed for TR 2010! One month ago, his attendance was questionable but, surely by an act of destiny, his alternate plans did not materialize! In any event, we're happy to have him return for his 9th straight Serb Fest!

5.01.10 :: Congratulations to Dave & Bry!
On April 29th, Dave & Bry welcomed their first daughter, Adeline Grace to their family. At the same time, we all welcome her to the Serb Fest Family! While it's now been confirmed that they will be unable to attend TR 2010, we all look forward with great anticipation to their return in 2011 and Adeline's first taste of Serbian sausage!

4.21.10 :: Serb Fest History Webpage is Overhauled; Timeline Added
An overhauled Serb Fest History webpage was unveiled today. The most notable new feature is a timeline that appears on the side of the page. I've been looking to incorporate a timeline into the website for several years. Seeing as how this initial version was put together in just a few hours, its not quite as populated as I hope for it to become over time. As always, if anyone has any content they'd like to contribute, please contact me! Those of you who have been attending longer than I have surely have some valuable information to contribute!

4.17.10 :: "Sangria Sunday" is set to Debut at TR 2010!
Already responsible for initiating several popular traditions in her first 5 trips to Turkey Run such as the Golden Cevapcici Award, the post beer float BBQ Pulled Pork meal, and the Saturday morning Jimmy Dean breakfast, Julie Berger has yet another solid idea to implement! Recognizing that we will be seeing several new young children joining us at TR this year, making participation in Sunday's Canoe Trip/Kayak Trip/Beer Float challenging if not impossible for several of the young parents in the group - with Julie herself being one of them, she plans to initiate "Sangria Sunday" to run concurrently with the Sunday afternoon Beer Float as a means of entertaining the people who are "stuck" at the grill site watching the kids. A brilliant idea, no doubt, already having stirred up great excitement among some of the individuals expected to participate in this new tradition! But let's hope things don't spiral out of control and the beer floaters don't return to passed out parents and young children playing with fire and eating old charcoal ash off the ground!

4.04.10 :: Rishi is Out, BS is Questionable
While this weekend brought together a healthy group of TR regular attendees with several people flying into Chicago, the group also learned of the disappointing news that Rishi would not be able to make the trip to TR 10 due to a conflict with his Business School Graduation in Texas the same weekend. While not ideal, its hard to fault a guy for skipping out on TR for such an occasion. On the flip side, we were also stunned by the news that Brian Kelley is contemplating skipping out on TR this year to do some more worldly "traveling". I'll spare you the details because after all, this is somewhat of a family atmosphere. The group is obviously encouraging him to reconsider and I urge everyone else to join in. I'll spare the personal plea to him here on TR Online, as allegedly, he has never once visited this website. Ladies & Gents, these are not qualities that align with the Spirit of Turkey Run. Let this be a lesson on how not to conduct yourselves if you are in pursuit of the Golden Cevapcici Award.

3.01.10 :: No Chuckles at TR 2010
I've received word that Chuckles, with great regret, will be unable to attend TR 2010 this May. With a demanding work schedule and plans to attend both Jovan's and Nutz's weddings this year, requesting additional time off on Memorial Day Weekend was simply not an option. He does however intend to return to Turkey Run in 2011 to play a role in the presentation of the Golden Cevapcici Award to its next recipient!

2.28.10 :: Actors Christopher Lloyd & James Tolkan Visit Naperville

As the legend goes, for several years in the late 1990's and early 2000's the kids who piled into the Zelenkovich Van for the trip down to TR knew that the duration of the trip was exactly as long as it took to watch Back to the Future and Top Gun back-to-back. Back to the Future in particular has inspired several TR traditions - most notably, the case of TaB cola that finds its way into a cooler each year. In light of this, it seemed appropriate to share a couple images of Scott meeting Christopher Lloyd (Dr. Emmet Brown - BTTF) and James Tolkan (Strickland - BTTF ; Stinger - Top Gun). The two were in town this weekend promoting the 25th anniversary of the release of Back to the Future.

While it was particularly exciting to meet Doc Brown, having Strickland point a finger in his face while being called a "Slacker" was awesome! From the photo, you may also find yourself imagining Stinger reprimanding Scott, telling him that "his ego is writing checks his body can't cash!".

If any of us find ourselves in the position to be able to play movies in our vehicles today or in the future (Nutz), may I remind you of this highly recommended activity. Drivers, your passengers will thank you!

2.10.10 :: Three New Serb Fest Attendee Confirmations
In this still young Turkey Run season, I'm delighted to share with you confirmation of three new attendees for TR 2010! I'd first like to welcome Tripp Charvatt and Becky Libby, good friends of Jovan and Steph. I'd also like to welcome Brian O'Kelly.... Yes, you read that correctly... Serb Fest will now see the likes of a Brian Kelley and a Brian O'Kelly. Perhaps this will spark some kind of ridiculous competition. For those of you scoring at home, Mr. O'Kelly is Erin Berger's younger brother. As always, it's great to see new faces at TR. Please contact me if you have any other confirmed attendees not included here on the website (GIRLS). I hope it has become more obvious that this website is no longer gender discriminatory!

2.07.10 :: A New Decade Begins for Serb Fest
Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls, it's February... and one of the few things that gets me through the dark, bitter cold days is the mounting anticipation for Serb Fest, only a few short months away! As we prepare to add another notch to our belts, let's take a few moments to browse around TR Online and think about not only where we're going, but where we've been as Serb Fest says hello to its incredible 5th decade of celebration!

6.06.09 :: "The Tao of Turkey Run"
Prior to his return to TR 09, Charlie Ruiz authored one of the most inspiring pieces of writing to ever come out of our generation. Titled, "The TAO of Turkey Run", this piece answers the questions, "What does Turkey Run mean to me?" and "Why should you come to Turkey Run?" Do yourself a favor and be inspired by his words and perhaps you will find yourself being the 2011 recipient of the Golden Cevapcici Award.

6.06.09 :: Code of Ethics Version 3.0 is Released
For the first time since June 2004, the TR Code of Ethics have been revamped and re-released in it what is the 3rd version of the list. Several items have remained unchanged, but several have been added to reflect the nature of today's Serb Fest festivities & culture. Let this new Code be a guide for all of us to live by (in the context of Turkey Run and related activities).

5.25.09 :: Another Decade of Serb Fest Comes to a Close - Chuckles Takes Home the 2009 Golden Cevapcici Award!
Much to the pleasant surprise of many, Turkey Run 2009 turned out to be the largest Serb Fest in over a decade, if not longer! With approximately 40 people in attendance, there were people, coolers, and lawn chairs for what seemed like as far as the eye could see! It was a sight one might imagine you'd find in Serb Fest's "heyday" when as many as 20 families gathered 'round the grills of Turkey Run! Let this be the sign of an upward trend in attendance and the continued growth of a new generation at TR.

While Monday was slightly dampered by the falling rain, it didn't stop the presentation of the 2009 Golden Cevapcici Award to Charlie "Chuckles" Ruiz who was heralded as having displayed countless instances of Teamwork not only at TR 09, but in each of his past Serb Fest attendances. He was also recognized for his being living proof that the Spirit of Turkey Run does not begin and end on Memorial Day Weekend, but is something that should live with you each and every day of the year. We congratulate Chuckles on his well deserved achievement!

5.15.09 :: Stevanovic Family Photos Reveal an Interesting Fact Previously Known Only to Few...

A big thank you is in order for Monica who took the time to dig up some old family photos this week. We now officially have archived photos of TR 87 and TR 93, both of which previously were without photographic evidence. While the following fact could have been easily verified at some point over the last 10 years, these photos served as a correction to a long standing assumption among most of our generation.

For many years, it was assumed that the first known non-Serbian attendee of our generation at Serb Fest was none other than Jeff Bott, once recollected by Jovan as having first attended in 1996, but later disproved by the only known photo of Mr. Bott surfacing, which dates back to TR 1994. What we've now been able to confirm is not only that Emma was also in attendance at TR 1994, as we see a new photo that sits in sequence with the Bott photo (notice the same Serbian rummaging through the cooler on the picnic table). A photo from TR 1993 showing Emma sitting at a table reveals that she was in fact the first non-Serbian friend of either Jovan or Monica to attend Serb Fest!

On a related note, TR Online received word recently that Emma has a conflict in plans for TR 09. I have to urge those who are closest to her to remind her of the Spirit of Turkey Run and how important it is for her to at least make an abbreviated appearance!

5.07.09 :: Turn Back The Clock: A Look Back at TR 99 - Ten Years Later

TR 1999 remains perhaps the most infamous of Serb Fests of all time! With several near-death experiences through-out the weekend, so much of what we know Turkey Run to be today began this very weekend. A small group of men, still years away from being able to legally drink piled into the Zelenkovich Family Van for the trek down to Marshall, Indiana at a time when the drive was measured simply by the amount of time it took to watch "Back to the Future" & "Top Gun" back-to-back.

Take a look back and appreciate some of the humble beginnings of our generation at Serb Fest!

TR 99 - Ten Years Later

5.02.09 :: Predrag & Mila Zelenkovich (Mr. & Mrs. Z) to Attend Serb Fest 2009!
I've just received word from Jovan that his parents have indeed confirmed their attendance for TR 09! This will be their first trip to Serb Fest since 2006 and only their second return trip to TR since parting ways with TR in 2002 (at least on an annual basis). We hear that Mila is looking forward to a canoe trip on Sugar Creek with Monica's Mom - which looks like we officially have confirmed attendance of another TR Hall of Famer!

4.05.09 :: Yep, Just a Glorified Barbeque...
Spring is officially upon us! We've all surely been dreaming of the sizzling sound of the grills at Turkey Run all winter. Most of us are intimately familiar with the menu items we all consume each year at TR, but I've taken some time to break down the menu on the website to give perspective attendees yet another tool to get familar with what Serb Fest has to offer! Check out what you can expect to eat this year at Serb Fest HERE.

3.21.09 :: OLAF (or... his lovely wife Julie) Delivers the First Male of the Next Generation!
On March 21st, OLAF and Julie welcomed Baby Jack into their family and on May 23rd, we will officially welcome him into the TR Family! This birth is of notable significance as it is the first newborn male of his generation to be introduced to Turkey Run! I'm sure I speak for Jovan, OLAF, and all other Councilmen, and General Participants that we all look forward to seeing you grow up around the grills of Turkey Run and embrace the legend and tradition to help carry the torch in decades to come! Son, remember... it will one day be up to you and your peers to make the very important decision on whether or not to induct your father and those of his generation into the greatly respected Turkey Run Hall of Fame. We hope to make you proud, just the same as you'll make us! Ziveli!

2.13.09 :: Ask and You Shall Receive...
Friday night we received a report from a reliable source (Dave R) that Erich Mann, known to many simply as, Ich, intends on accepting the formal invitation extended to him several weeks ago to attend TR 09. We're anticipating him making the trip with Dave & Bry Saturday morning. As many of you know, Ich has been on a list of potential attendees for the better part of the last decade and in December, 2008, he made claims that he has indeed had interest in attending but felt he had never formally been invited. In discovering this, Scott took swift action and finally extended the official invite via email. We're sure that everyone who's known Ich for the past decade (and beyond) will be excited to see his attendance finally materialize!

1.26.09 :: Another Pre-Serb Fest Season is upon us!
Ladies & Gentlemen... As these cold winter days pass us by, we find quickly approaching the next chapter of Serb Fest history! It brings me great joy to begin rolling out the TR Online Preview of Serb Fest 2009. Be sure to check back in the coming weeks to find updates on schedules, attendance lists, & shopping duties. Let the anticipation of the burning fires on the grills of Turkey Run keep your spirits warm during this especially frigid winter!

12.25.08 :: Chrismas Greetings From Dan Boskovic!

9.12.08 :: Serb Fest Hits Wikipedia!

On a whim today, Serb Fest made it's mark on the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. The first contribution made was part of the "Turkey Run State Park" entry. This quickly led to a dedicated entry being made for Serb Fest.

Remember, technically, any of us could edit the content on the Serb Fest Wikipedia entry. So if you're so inclined, feel free to add to the content. However, keep in mind that it should be objectively presented as if someone who knows nothing of our sacred weekend could follow along.

The entry actually seems somewhat legitimate until you get to the last line of the 2nd paragraph where the Serbian Flag being secured by an old tree branch and duct tape is referenced!

6.14.08 :: A Sad Day For Serb Fest
I trust that most have heard the news by now - so I'm somewhat comfortable making mention here at this time.... Last Sunday, our friend and beloved Turkey Run Hall of Famer, Cika Bora passed away. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer this past Spring. For those of us who were honored and lucky enough to have shared even one Serb Fest with him, he will forever be missed and for those past and future attendees who did not or will not have the opportunity to meet him, rest assured that he will be spoken of often and his memory will live on indefinitely. My deepest condolences go out to the Boskovic Family and the entire Serb Fest Family - especially to those who were closest to him.

5.28.08 :: Visions of Serb Fest Past at '08
While only one Hall of Famer made an appearance at TR 08, if you took a look around this year, you would have found quite a few moments that resembled great Serb Fest moments of years past making this year one to remember!

5.10.08 :: Shopping Assignments to be Distributed Shortly
As the logistics of our annual festivities continue to evolve - let me unveil this year's "strategy" for the providing of food & supplies to TR this year.

Click HERE for additional information.

5.09.08 :: Serb Fest Collection - Volume I Released!

The newest audio release from TR Online is now available! Serb Fest Collection- Volume I contains 13 Song Selections Inspired By The Spirit Of Turkey Run! The Collection is heavily influenced by Southern Rock & Bluegrass favorites that we've come to associate so closely with TR. Download the tracks and gear up for a high energy drive to TR!

5.08.08 :: Audio Downloads Now Availabe on TR Online!
In the age of mp3's & iPods and the ever decreasing use of CD's - I thought it was appropriate to forge ahead and make all past (and of course, future) TR Audio Releases available for download on TR Online! Now you can have all of your favorite TR songs on your mp3 player of choice for year round listening pleasure - or at least for your car ride down to TR this year! Click HERE for available audio downloads.

4.23.08 :: TR 2008 Schedule of Events Released
This year's schedule has been officially posted! View it HERE. Stay tuned for more updates as further logistics of departure locations and transportation arrangements are settled. One related note of interest: The past 2 years, we have grown accustomed to reserving rooms for the TR of 2 years in the future - However, this year, due to the layout of the calendar, we will be able to reserve rooms upon arrival to Turkey Run.

All TR 2009 Expected attendees are to reserve rooms for TR 2010 upon arrival. (TR 10 begins on 5/28/10). This will involve reserving a room for nearly a full week prior to the start of TR 10, but sometime between this day and 5/26/2010, you can cancel the 4-5 days prior to the 28th. This will be further explained prior to making any reservations for anyone who doesn't understand the concept.

4.22.08 :: New Attendee Confirmation!
It brings me great pleasure to formally welcome and introduce new attendees for TR 2008, Mike & Amy Z! Amy is a childhood friend and neighbor of Julie Berger and today, with her husband Mike, are still close neighbors to Scott & Julie in Naperville. The invitation was casually extended over the winter, but a formal invitation was extended a few short weeks ago. A viewing of the Fire & Ice Special Edition documentary sealed the deal. Mike is sure to be a fierce contender for this year's Rookie of the Year honors!

4.10.08 :: Frequently Asked Questions
With so many new attendees potentially headed to TR this year, I thought it'd be appropriate to revamp the FAQ page a bit... For those of you who are new, please read through them and of course, if you have any additional questions, pleae do not hesitate to pass them along - scottberger1@hotmail.com. I will add them to the FAQ page. Also, if any of you veterans can think of any additional questions your recruits may be having, send those along as well and we'll get them on the website... THANKS!

2.02.08 :: Record Attendance Rumored for TR08!
It's February... which means it's time to really get serious about gearing up for the upcoming festivities! I know it's turned into a bit of a cliche to point out the high anticipation of the weekend... but this year, I can honestly say that I've seen the anticipation on it's way to being the highest ever! We seem to be on track to set a new Fire & Ice attendance record including the potential highest jump in attendance since TR 2003! There's been early & serious interest shown by as many as 15 potential attendees with as many as 6 new faces! Competition for this years Rookie of the Year honors will be fierce!

1.07.08 :: Serb Fest & Facebook Unite!
Thanks to Chuckles to suggesting that we start up a Facebook Group for Serb Fest! While there have been some efforts for online interaction between current and past Serb Fest attendees through the TR Message Board, its use has been less than impressive... With the birth of the new Facebook Group, users can not only have discussions on TR related topics, but can also upload photos, videos, and other general comments they'd like to share with the group!

For those of you who have not yet registered with Facebook, what are you waiting for? If you choose not to maintain an in depth personal profile, that's okay! Simply register just to subscribe to the group! Yes... I'm talking to you - OLAF, BS, Rishi, Arpan, and any other past attendees!

5.29.07 :: Beer & Bags Dominate TR 07
It was another great year of evolution and great memories despite the usual heavy rainfall and unusual swarms of knats. While some were missed, those of us in attendance made great contributions to the weekend and surely once again, redefined what future Turkey Runs will behold. A great thanks to all who attended for making it another fantastic weekend. The annual recap page will be online in the near future as well as everyone's tabs for the weekend.

For now, have a look at this year's annual Beater Photo!

5.04.07 :: TR 07 Logistics To Soon Be Determined
Jovan has dropped his Friday afternoon class... I've chosen to believe that he did this solely on account of Turkey Run scheduling! Whatever the reason may be, he will be joining the Friday caravan. On another note though, it seems Nutz will be joining us on Saturday due to a business trip that has him overseas until the weekend of TR. We will all wait patiently in anticipation of his arrival!

Details are still being worked out in regards to logistics on shopping and point of departure on Friday. There may be 2 points of departure - one in the city & one in the suburbs - depending on if we can arrange for the transfer of coolers to each perspective departure locations. This may prove to be the trickiest year yet in terms of packing and transportation. Stay tuned for more details to be posted as they are available.

Other quick notes of interest: Jovan's parents are out; Joe & Rachel Kelley have declined; and Vince Kus has continued to show interest in attending. Also, a big thanks to Dave R for his proactive nature in offering to provide all of the Burgers, Hot Dogs, & Cheddarwursts we'd like. I've advised him on numbers and look forward to some of the new additions to the menu this year!

4.07.07 :: TR 07 Tentative Schedule Released
This will once again be a year of change in terms of when and from where some of us we depart for TR. For those of us flying in for TR, now's certainly the time to book that airfare! And remember, make sure your return flight doesn't depart too early on Monday! For an in depth preview of what to expect for TR 07 click here. The 2007 Schedule of Events is now available but is subject to some fine tuning. Major events listed should be reliable. As always, please contact Jovan & I with your plans for departure as well as vehicle availability!

3.10.07 :: Will Vince Kus Return to TR in 2007?
In a text message from Vince Kus to XX on the evening of March 10, Vince inquired... "Has there been a summoning by the TR High Council for the return of Kussenegger at TR 07?"

I take this inquiry with a grain of salt as I am not confident that a "summoning" would result in actual attendence, but at the very least, it has my interest peaked.

10.10.06 :: Crisis Averted!
As we all know, since TR 2005, we've been facing the dilemma of not having any rooms booked for 2 of 3 nights of TR 2007.... Well, worry no more! I'm pleased to announce that I have secured a total of 6 rooms for all 3 nights! These include 2 Non-Smoking Cabin rooms, 1 Smoking Cabin room, and 3 (single bed) rooms at the Inn. Because we were only extending our previous reserveration by 2 days, no additional deposit was necessary! Let this be a lesson learned for future TR's.... Watch the calendar closely! (I'll still do my best to send threatening remniders each year - remember - going forward, we all book our own reservations for future TR's) I also recently had the pleasure of having a discussion with CR over several $1.50 PBR's which included the first real anticipation of TR '07. CR enthusiastically informed me of his sincere efforts to persuade his Father to grant us use of his RV next May.... We'll keep a close eye on this!

6.16.06 :: TR 2006 Recap
A recap of TR 2006 is now available! Thanks to everyone who made Serb Fest a success once again! Take a moment to relive TR 06 and don't hesitate to pass along any additional quotes or memories that should be included! Also, be sure to contact me to arrange sending any additional photos that you have of TR 06! Only 49 weeks until.... okay, okay.. maybe a bit premature! We still need cabins though!!

5.21.06 :: No Rain At TR??!
As many of you surely know, a strong storm or tornado warning at TR is something to be somewhat expected. It's certainly never gotten in the way of a good time at TR, but who doesn't prefer the sun on their backs?? In case you haven't been keeping a close eye on the 10 day forcast for Marshall, Indiana... the weekend is looking like it's going to be damn near PERFECT! Last week, there were initial reports of scattered thunderstorms each day, but it looks like those storm predictions have been moved up to this upcoming week making way for clear, sunny skies with temperatures in the mid to upper 80's! Nutz, bring some sun block! 10 Day Forecast

5.13.06 :: Less Than 2 Weeks To Go!
We're in the home stretch! It seems that we've cleared up any uncertainties surrounding TR06 - in particular - transportation. Jovan has been able to secure the old Explorer for the weekend! This solves the problem of transporting the *Official TR Cooler* and some other large items. Julie & I will be driving one car, but we will still need at least 1 additional car to make the trip. R has kindly volunteered, but we may be open to an alternative plan if it makes more sense. Unconfirmed prospective attendees include 2004 Intellectual of the Year, Vince Kus and an unspecified number of new recruits from Councilman, Brian Crissie.

4.29.06 :: Less Than 1 Month To Go!
Can you believe it?? We're officially a few short weeks away from TR06! As always, the list of attendees is nearly confirmed, but still holds some question marks. We have confirmed 1 new attendee this year, and while a few regulars will be missed, there are hot rumors that Roach may attend! Also, as always, the greatest uncertainty this year is transportation. While we may have several cars available to haul people and bags, we are desperately seeking solutions for transporting coolers, beer, the fire & ice grill, etc. The 2006 Schedule of Events is now available and is subject to some fine tuning. But major events listed should be reliable.

4.02.06 :: Fire & Ice Special Edition DVD Finally Ships!!
Nearly 10 months after its intended release, the painful wait is over! Many have already recieved a package containing the covetted disc, which, for those of you who may not know, was delayed primarily because of efforts being made to release the remastered feature and all bonus footage on a single DVD. For those of you who are expecting, but have not yet received your copy, please make sure you've provided me with a current mailing address, as requested last week. Invite your friends and loved ones to view the DVD and share in your great excitement for next month's upcoming festivities!

3.26.06 :: Congratulations to OLAF!
Congratulations are certainly in order for OLAF and his wife Julie who are expecting their first child shortly after TR 06. Understandably, this is going to keep OLAF from attending this year & while his absence will be greatly felt, we all wish him well and look foward to his return at TR 07. We'll also do our best to make up his typical consumption of High Life.

3.04.06 :: Serb Fest History Receives Extensive Updates!
After a year of anticipation, it brings me great pleasure to officially unveil the extensive Serb Fest Archive documenting the history of Serb Fest as far back as 1977 with over 60 photos dating as far back as 1980! Take a moment and realize that some of these photos are older than some of us! (Krangis)... At the very least, we should all take a few minutes, or even hours and appreciate the rich history of this weekend barbeque we affectionately call "TR".

SERB FEST ARCHIVE ::

As always, if ANYONE has in their posession or knows of anyone with any additional photos, video footage, etc. from ANY year, please find a way to get them to me and allow them to be properly archived an preserved for future generations!

2.17.06 :: TR Attendees gather for annual Zelenkovich Slava.

Several TR Attendess gathered at Skadalija Restauraunt in Chicago for the annual Slava hosted by the Zelenkovich Family... As expected, anticipation was high for TR 06 as we drank and danced amidst the presence of legends.

2.11.06 :: Announcements
Have you requested Friday May 26th off work yet? Let's face it.. this is becoming more and more of a necessity as the years go by.

For those of you wondering what happened to the DVD release of the Fire & Ice Special Edition, rest assured, the project is still alive. Since it's planned release in May 2005, we have decided to postpone its release in order to have the ability to fit all of the release's content onto a single DVD instead of a feature disc and bonus disc. Final editing and DVD menu creation is scheduled for later this month.

2.07.06 :: Early Attendance Confirmations
The early bird get's the civap! And this year, the early bird is Dave R! Okay, disregard that comment.. but we must not overlook Dave's overwhelming enthusiasm in his recent inquiry about TR 06! He gets the nod as the first confirmed attendee of all those who are not expected to attend. Honorable mention goes to XX who uncharacteristically dialed in the early confirmation as well! Be sure to check out the 2006 preview here>

2.01.06 :: The Season Is Upon Us!
As we tread our way through the month of February, it brings me great pleasure to know that it's never too soon to begin the hype of the upcoming year's trip to Turkey Run! This perhaps may go down as the quickest off season to past in recent memory - for me at least... If you're happening to stumble upon this offseason visit to TROnline.com, make it a habit, because the updates will plentiful in the coming weeks & months! Ziveli!

5.31.05 :: Serb Fest a Success Yet Again!
With TR 05 officially in the books, we can only look back with fond memories and begin the arguous journey of looking foward to TR 06. Relive TR 05 here>

5.22.05 :: Special Edition DVD Nearing Completion!
With less than a week to go, the latest DVD release is very near completion! With over 1/2 hour of Special Features, this DVD is sure not to dissapoint!

5.03.05 :: 2 Unexpeced late additions to the TR 05 Lineup!
Just as we thought the list of attendees was wrapped up it was decided to issue 2 additional invitiations to this year's festivities. It brings me great pleasure to formally announce the confirmation of 1st time attendees Joe Kelley & Dave R. This brings the total of confirmed attendees to 14!

4.18.05 :: DVD Trailer Available For Download!
The wait is over! Download the exclusive trailer for the 'Fire & Ice Special Edition' DVD due out this May!

TR Trailer - Low Res [12.0 MB]
TR Trailer - Hi Res [18.8 MB]

4.13.05 :: 6 Short Weeks To Go!
The particulars of TR 05 are beginning to take shape! I've been accepting formal confirmations from a number of attendees in recent weeks! Consult the "TR is right around the corner" page for details. - Though no great surprises have presented themselves as of yet... 2005 Schedule of Events is now available.

As of last night, hope is STILL ALIVE for the unthinkable dream of taking an RV to Turkey Run this year! The latest update revealed that CR's father needed to call his insurance company to verify whether or not CR would be covered to drive the vehicle. If in fact he is, we'll have one hell of a ride down to TR!

The 'Fire & Ice Special Edition' DVD is making progress. Krangis has chosen to keep its progress extremely tight-lipped but I was recently allowed to preview a trailor that we are attempting to make available via download right here at TROnline! This will surely get the anticipation for Memorial Day to its expected level for this time of year! More details will be coming shortly!

3.19.05 :: More Historical Photos Obtained!
Jovan recently was able to get his hands on a stack of photos that reveal a part of TR's history that has until now only been legend. Last year, we were ecstatic to see photos from as far back as 1985, but we now have photos that date as far back as TR 1980! Most date from the early 80's and others will be added to our collection of mid-90's photos. This will no-doubt help us further appreciate the history and tradition of Serb Fest!

1.29.05 :: A Message From Dan F
Ladies & Gentlemen, after receiving formal permission from the man himself, it brings me great pleasure to make available to you all a message of inspiration left by none other than XX... Further proof that anticipation for TR 2005 is growing with each passing day!

Message [821 KB]

5.28.08 :: Update: Unfortunately, despite previous permission to make the audio of this message available this past attendee has requested that this file no longer be publically hosted on this website.

1.13.05 :: Editing Begins On TR '04 Video Footage
Its official! Its that time of year again when TR creeps to the front of everyone's minds! With that comes the editing of the previous years video footage. As you may or may not remember, the "Fire & Ice Extravaganza - Special Edition" DVD is slated for a Spring 2005 release. This will include a remastered version of 2004's original DVD release as well as plenty of special features sure to get everyone licking their chops for another great Memorial Day Weekend! And lets not forget an exclusive preview of what we're all in store for in 2006... The next full length documentary that will capture the return of "Serb Fest" to Turkey Run!!

1.07.05 :: TR '05 Could Be A Landmark Year for Transportation!
To our great surprise, it seems as though the Zelenkovich van may make one final trip to TR this year. This is great news for those of us who tend to hold on to the tradition of TR Past. But on a much more exciting note....
How many of us laughed at John for his comment in the Fire & Ice Documentary that "Who knows, maybe someday we will rent an RV"... Well.. ladies & gentlemen, someday may in fact be upon us.. sort of... It was recently announced by our good friend CR that his father had just purchased an RV! CR being as sharp as he is proceded to run the idea of borrowing the RV for Memorial Day Weekend.. for now, he was receptive to the idea.. so we'll keep our fingers crossed! Upon receiving this news, Jovan actually nearly broke down in tears and embraced CR as if they were family.

1.01.05 :: Happy New Years! TR '05 News!!
We have great news to share! Despite Jovan taking his "Fire & Ice" grill to Boston this Fall, thanks to a generous gift from Krangis to Scott, we will once again experience the succulent chicken that is prepared by said grill. On a related note, for all of you that are familiar with Crazy Dan's "grandfather" green cooler with built in bottle opener.... we now have a cooler of similar features & charm.

8.14.04 :: TR Supplies Find A New Home...
As anticipated at TR 04, this past year was believed to be the last year the men would depart from the Zelenkovich Residence in Prospect Heights, IL. A major step was taken today towards confirming this inevitability. The Turkey Run supplies & coolers have officially been transitioned to Scott for an interim year at the Berger Residence in Glen Ellyn, IL. A sad day indeed, but yet another step foward towards the future of Turkey Run.

6.01.04 :: TR ONLINE Updates On The Way!
As I'm sure everyone now knows, the website now has its own official domain found at http://www.turkeyrunonline.com. There are major plans to add several new features, video footage, images, and memories from not only 2004, but from Serb Fests past as far back as 1985! Check back often and I will try to keep everyone posted on major updates and additions to the website!

6.01.04 :: TR '04 Officially In The Books!
The triumphant return of Serb Fest brought everyone's appreciation of Turkey Run to new and exciting levels! Despite a few hang-ups, the weekend was once again a COMPLETE SUCCESS! A great thanks to everyone who contributed to making this year's Serb Fest one for the ages!

Congratulations to this year's newest Councilmen, Brian Kelley & Jeff Berger. You are both important fixtures to the legend of Turkey Run. Special thanks are also in order for those who have reached General Participant status this year: Brian Crissie, Charlie Ruiz, & XX. We look foward to your continued appearances at future TR's.

5.16.04 :: Dan F Confirms!
In a conference call Sunday afternoon, XX announced his confirmation of attendance in typical Dan F style! Everyone is looking foward to his return for the first time since TR 1999, the year in which he set the stage for his legend. Brian Crissie has also confirmed attendance and has brought another newcomer to the mix. I am thrilled to have Vince Kus, and old friend of myself, Brian, & XX, on the list of attendees this year.

5.28.08 :: Update: Unfortunately, despite previous permission to make the audio of this message available this past attendee has requested that this file no longer be publically hosted on this website.

5.01.04 :: THE RETURN OF SERB FEST!!
After essentially ruling out ALL possibility of any Hall Of Famers attending TR for the second straight year, Jovan has recieved word that we will indeed be graced by the presence of 4 Hall Of Famers this year at TR! The second annual "Fire & Ice Extravaganza" will be put on hold until further notice (hopefully years down the road) for the return of SERB FEST! Chuckles is currently the only 04 attendee to have only experienced TR with the absence of the older generation of Serbs, so this is sure to be a special year for him. The TR 04 Rookies don't quite understand the significance of this all yet, but one day they will surely appreciate how lucky they were to have their first experience of Turkey Run be a genuine Serb Fest!

4.27.04 :: Attendance Update
No word on XX or Loona, but surprising news includes likely attendance of TR 2000 attendee, Sean Sullivan. Ich & Roach have both respectfully declined for various reasons.

The TR 2004 schedule has been updated to reflect new plans for Turkey Run Eve. All are encouraged to join in the festivities!

4.10.04 :: DF Gives 70% Probability of Attendance!
I received word this week that XX now sees the odds of his attendance this year at OVER 70%. From what it seems, this may in fact even be a conservative estimate! We're hoping he's close to a lock!

3.20.04 :: "Fire & Ice" Prescreening an Emotional Evening For All....
On Friday, March 19th, 2 presreenings of the documentary were held. The first, a private viewing for Jovan, was an emotional 45 minutes... a true culmination of all the agonizing anticipation leading up to the evening. A second screening was held for Nutz and Chuckles later that evening. They too were left in nothing but the highest of spirits after the viewing. We can hardly wait for the rest of the group to join in the experience on May 28th!

3.12.04 :: TR Documentary COMPLETE!
Ten months after Turkey Run '03, after 2 intense months of editing, the highly anticipated TR Documentary is finally complete! Jovan will have a private viewing of the film this Friday before it is ultimately opened up to the rest of the group on May 28th, Turkey Run Eve. We hope that everyone will be able to make the viewing that Friday night at the Zelenkovich Residence in Prospect Heights!

I would like to formally thank Krangis for his tireless hard work and dedication the past 2 months and for keeping an open mind and work together with myself to make this documentary more than any of us could have fathomed 1 year ago.
Scott ::

3.11.04 :: Arpan Confirmed for TR '04!
These are exciting times indeed! With under 75 days until the big weekend, Arpan has confirmed his attendance by purchasing his plane tickets to Chicago for the weekend. Traveling from Raleigh, NC, this will definitely give him the record for furtherst distance traveled for a rookie trip to TR. For those of you unfamiliar with Arpan's past, he has had a running invitation for several years now, but has always been unable to attend due to family obligations. The founding members are thrilled to finally have him aboard this year!

In related news, Rishi, another fellow North Carolina attendee is getting closer to confirmation as negotiations continue to convince him that TR will not interfere with his study schedule for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that he will fold under the friendly pressure put upon him!

2.27.04 :: TR '04 Attendance List Taking Shape
The official invitations have been extended to all prospective rookies and hopeful returning attendees as of this week. CR has been confirmed again after having to miss last years festivities. The HIGHLY ANTICIPATED return of XX was taken to a new level yesterday afternoon when I spoke with him. He was unable to give 100% confirmation due to a potential crucial work-related conflict. Details are sketchy at this time, but he did give me his word (and his word is as strong as oak), that he would do everything in his power to attend Turkey Run this Memorial Day. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome.

2 Rookies have nearly been confirmed. Most of you know Arpan, a long time perspective attendee who, upon attendance, will set a new record for furthest distance traveled for their rookie trip to TR, narrowly beating Rishi's record of a year ago. I have also been informed of a new recruit from Jovan. We welcome Chuck "Chuck the Truck" Leto to the TR family. With the sucess of John's recruiting efforts of Rishi and Chuckles last year, and for that matter, of most of us at one point or another, we trust that his judgement will be top notch. On the downside, it appears that Rishi will be unable to return this year to follow up on his Rookie of the Year performance. This, however, does not jeapordize future invitation to TR.

Finally, as always, a sincere effort is being made to convince the elders to join us for what truly could be a historic weekend with their presence. An immediate announcement will indeed be made upon ANY confirmation of thier attendance.

2.27.04 :: TR Documentary Nearing Completion!
The finishing touches are being put on the documentary. I've had the great pleasure of being very involved with the editing process the last 3 weeks. Krangis and I are working hard to assure all of you a mind blowing experience when watching the film. I for one can say that it has FAR exceeded my wildest expectations! May 28th will be a glorious day!

2.01.04 :: TR Documentary Editing Making Progress!
Word has it that the documentary is nearing completion. There has been a strict mid-March deadline put on the project for school related reasons, to ensure a pre-TR 2004 release. I have been privaleged enough to be able to view 2 segments thus far - including "DSD" & "The Drive Down". The wait and anticipation will surely be worth it!

1.09.04 :: TR Dominates Coversation at Slava
The Serbs rang in the new year at their annual slava at Skadarlia Restaurant in Chicago. The event brought together generations of TR attendees and made for a great opportunity to bid for the return of the Hall of Famers in '04. While they were reluctant to commit, we were encouraged. Of course, we'd all love nothing more than to have that kind of history in our presence next year at TR.

10.18.03 :: TR 2004 Right Around the Corner!
With Thanksgiving fast approaching, its important to point out the fact that its arrival will mark the approximate half way point to TR 2004! While we count down the days to the next TR immediately following TR each year, it now feels closer than ever! Jovan has prepared a statement. Look for it sometime before TR '04.

Big Shit gets a little "touchy" with the girls...
With the announcement that the girls of Turkey Run had created a website of their
own, Big Shit gave them a piece of his mind.... and while it may have been a bit harsh (mind you, all are on healthy, friendly terms at this point), it is still quite humorous. His reponse can be read here.

2004 Schedule of Events Released
The tentative schedule has been released and can be viewed here. Obviously, since it is still early, many things are subject to change.

Turkey Run Online is up and running!
Updates will be made periodically once the site is complete. At that point, TR Online will be the single greatest resource for Turkey Run attendees past, present, and future.

TR Documentary editing underway
Over 11 hours of footage was shot this year at Turkey Run by our friend Krangis. As time permits, editing will be done to create a 30 minute showcase of the weekend's spirit.

Be sure to email any pictures you have from TR to krangis@aol.com.
